Hypoxia drills, hyperoxia drills. So many valves (and trying to remember where they are and how to reach them). Look at the computer. Change the setpoints. Select the gas. Does it ever end? I brought my Optima home to do some land drills for scenarios. Tomorrow will be two pool sessions. So far, it is a very humbling experience. It really is as if starting all over again. ![]() |

![]() ![]() | Re: Started Optima Training Got my Optima in Nov and went through the training with John Jones. Did you say HUMBLING! Oh my, Yes humbling! Thanks for your patience John! I now have 30 hours and this is some great machine, but it took me 15 hours to be myself again. Don't despair, all of sudden it all clicks in and the fun begins!

It'll all become intuitive some hours past your certification course with Tom. It's just the natural course of evolution. Have fun. |

Every now and then the rebreathers will humble me, never to cocky to say that I’ve seen or know it all…humble is good life support. I feel a little better after doing some land drills tonight. I am starting to find everything on my unit by touch a little better now. Did I say that the whole thing is quite humbling? ![]() A bit of advice on Tom's u/w communication; when he starts arhhhhgg, arhhgg. Arhhgg’ing into the loop that means that your buoyancy sucks. I heard a lot of this in my ccr cave course. Still getting used to my Optima, had an opportunity to dive in Pompano Beach last week - what's with the 30 degree temps! I'm from MN and it was cold... Enjoy! Last edited by Deep Thought : 17th January 2006 at 00:37. |

I did use the time wisely by getting to the scuba shop to buy and change out some hoses that were either just a little long or a little short. Also made a minor equipment mod per my discussions with my instructor. Actually, it's all good. Now, I pretty much have the equipment where I was trying to get it before getting wet. First confined water session is now moved to tomorrow night. More to come . . . . |

![]() | Re: Started Optima Training I hear ya man! Four of us are down here in Playa del Carmen and just finished our last dive with Mikedive (one this site). We had a heck of a time but I feel so much better after the 500 or so minutes bottom time. I have a loooooooooooooooong way to go but when I was bouncing around the bottom of the pool I was thinking - what did I get myself into? Luckily Mike was patient and we are looking forward to logging more dives. BTW - this is my frst post in this group - HELLO EVERYONE!
