Proud owner of a new COPIS

After an extended period of lurking, reading, debating, and deliberating I finally took the plunge and made my first purchase.

Yesterday my order was filled and my new COPIS arrived. (less the loop)

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you at Rebreather World for all you've taught me over the past year through your posts.

I particularly wanted to thank Louisrankin. I sent him a couple of questions after reading one of his posts and ended up spending a while on the phone with the guy as he answered all my questions and then some.

Now it's time to start my education in earnest when I get together with Bill O. in Florida in a few weeks.

Re: Proud owner of a new COPIS

congrats on your final desition...it takes time to get into the mCCR groove but once you do it's a matter of time before it feels like an extension of your self. I've enjoyed mine so far. Consider adding at least the Shearwater HUD; real time po2 all the frickn time!

Great idea!!!

I'd actually wanted to do the upgrades immediately but was told that I needed to complete my initial training on a stock unit.

Not a big deal. I'll send the head off next month once the training is done.

thanks

There wasn't a single post and I've got to admit that I struggled with the decision to go mCCR right up until the time that I placed my order.

One of the driving factors was my perception regarding safety. Although I was never able to locate the type of statistics that are available in cave diving (and it really would be great if there was some type of global CCR Society that published accident analysis and statistics surrounding CCR fatalities) it's my perception that the mCCR's have a near flawless safety record. I think that's really important for someone who realizes they're totally ignorant when it comes to CCR diving.

I thought about going with the eCCR and flying on manual for the first year in order to establish the appropriate disciplines but I wasn't sure how long I'd stick with that philosophy so I decided not to take the chance.

Another thing that influenced my decision was what I considered a significant number of posts where more experienced eCCR divers where switching to mCCR units.

Finally, I figured it's really not that big a deal. I can always upgrade my head later if I decided that I should have gone eCCR.

You're right down the street. I'm in Southlake.

Diving in Texas????? I go to Terrell when I need to get wet or do drills with my wife. She's about to finish her cave cert.

Most of my diving is in Mexico, Florida, and Bonaire.

What about you?
