![]() | Newbie in Chicagoland Area Hey All- I am new to the whole rebreather thing and am very excited to finally find out about you guys. I am trying to make the decision on which on to buy! This is proving very difficult! Do I go Electronic or Old School... Oh the horror! If there is anyone in the area I can talk to about these things that would be great, I tried looking at the map but can't really find anyone. Thanks again for the great site! T- Out

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | welcome aboard Re: Newbie in Chicagoland Area Hi, T. Welcome aboard. What do you dive now, and where abouts? Do you hang out with any of the local scuba clubs? There are a handful of Rebreather divers around Chicago. Most are trimix / deep, and I'm not playing in that end of the pool yet. I get down to Haigh every so often to practice, and the Milwaukee car ferry is as deep as I've been in Lake MI. "the horror!" indeed :-) You're in an enviable spot, there are lots of good units on the market today. When I made my "buy" choice, a used inspiration (classic) was the right choice at the time (2005 Q3). I'm looking forward to getting my new & improved hammerhead in the water. If I was going to buy today, I'd be mightily tempted by the Revo, Optima, and the Meg. But I'm not :-) I will try to get another two seasons out of my Inspiration; by then co2 sensors and (maybe) non-galvanic o2 sensors (e.g. non-disposable) will be on the market. Not that those things would hold me back from jumping in today. At any rate, I'm struggling to find time away from work to get my unit overhauled and cleaned up for action this season (almost ready, too; new orings/spg's on the unit itself, now just tank tumbling + valve cleaning to do). John Hey All- I am new to the whole rebreather thing and am very excited to finally find out about you guys. I am trying to make the decision on which on to buy! This is proving very difficult! ![]() | Re: Newbie in Chicagoland Area Hey John- I dive air and nitrox oc right now and have been diving since 1989. I am not a part of any dive clubs in the area but live around the 294/55 interchange and get out to the quarry only now and then. Mainly to freedive and freak out the other divers. Most divers don't know what to do when they see me around 60ft without tanks! You should see them looking around like... "where are your tanks?" Drop me a line when you are going out, I would like to meet up with you guys and see all your stuff. I am free just about every weekend and am trying to get my wife into diving as well.
