XS is free but I am open to donations to my beer fund... there is a Paypal link on the website.

There are both PC & Palm OS versions, however the Palm version doesn't have CCR facilities yet. However I just work out what my loop gas is and enter it manually. Both versions use Hamilton Research's M11F6 (DCAP) algorithm.

As if the 'alpinist vs. bailout' debate wasn't enough we're going to have a mac vs. wintel one as well?

I'm a Mac user. Very happy with it. No spyware or virus attacks but niche software (dive, deco planning etc) doesn't get ported to it.

However, there is a MAC OS X version off DDPlan - which is free. I've used it to generate OC bailout tables.

Maybe, since there will certainly be changes in the Os to work better with Intel's silicon.

the main issue is that virus attacks are software based, not hardware based. Microsoft has always had gaping holes in their OS on both the client and server side. It may be that Apple has holes too, but with +/- 5% of the market, there just aren't enough hackers focused on creating mac viruses to know.

At any rate, I like what I see of GAP lite on my pocket PC. I wish I could run the full version to compare RGBM profiles to GF so that I can see/understand/plan what's happening with my shearwater electronics on the meg.

Right now, I'm using DivePlan for my Symbian phone. It has VPM (not B but Greg has promised to implement the 'b' code soon) and GF. I used to use Phi's program, right up until my palm was stolen (along with about $8,000 of other gear) while on vacation in Hawaii.

Remember OS X is basically a ripped off BSD with its own shell on top.. Most hacks exploit the way the os interacts with a specific processor, techniquers that work on one proecessor may not be easily carried to others (plus a much more limited scope of people that will know the specifics).. Once you go to intel you get lots of people who know the processors intimately, and I think it will cause havoc because most mac people have no idea what can be done by a virus or trojans..
