![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A True Texas Star His handle-When Pigs Fly! Our greeting was - Howdy Senor! Our State is the Great Republic of Texas. I will always remember him as my friend. (In memory of Rob Davies April 2006) Words do not express my grief and anger in reading about Rob’s passing. It was as if someone tore something so precious from my mind. The last we talked he was so excited about diving in the Red Sea and he was busy getting everything together. Even though he was a senior 777 pilot for Continental, a reserve office for the local police, a rebreather instructor and he always made time for divers and people in the community of diving. When he came home we were going to catch up- now that will never happen. We had just talked about diving this summer- Geyer Bank, Salt Dome, and a sunken oil rig. It was going to be the summer of the Gulf diving. Plus he was teaching, supporting other divers and developing a new unit. He was a man of many talents. The thing that hurts is- I know though that I won’t bump into him at Lake Travis or some dive show in the future. He won’t email me and ask “what’s been happening” or “how are things going.” Or our famous- line ‘Howdy Senor.’ In the fashion of downed pilot (our rebreather pilot.) There will be a serious drink of Single Malt Scotch at the Red Texas Sunset! I will pour a glass for you Rob stop on by and stir the ice. Rob, you will never go missing from my heart. You have inspired me to reach out and to give everything I have from the heart. Outbound flight 777 heavy you are cleared for flight- Due west into that warm red Texas sunset You have angels on your wings and divers memories on your six. Careful as you go partner, we be seeing you at a later time. Andrew

Rob and I were going to have lunch several weeks ago when he was in my neck of the woods and I got 'too busy' with work......this is so horrible.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: In memorium: Rob Davie, aka BigJetDriver Rita & I met Rob on a very nice Galapagos CCR diving trip a few years ago. He had managed to arrive with no luggage at all, because his own Continental managed to loose it.... Others would have exploded, Rob just smiled, accepted it, and went on diving, borrowing kit, enjoying it all thoroughly. He was always positive, always friendly, always smiling, always willing to help you. He helped me out carrying an Amphibico UW housing from the USA to Amsterdam on one of his professional flights. "Why not? I was in the neighbourhood anyway...!". We went dining with him in Amsterdam, and were once again impressed by his humour, good nature, fantastic stories and positive mind. He had seen more adventure than I will see in a 100 years. He could easily fill 36 hours in a day. But still a very modest man. He told me I was the only non-american using the word "okeedokee"... Rob was an explorer. Always trying out new things, extending his range, rebuilding things to his needs. He lived live to the max. But most of all he was a very fine human being, someone to be proud of, and of which it was good to be in his company. Rita & I will miss him. Not okeedokee. 'nough said. Ciao, Rob. Tino. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: In memorium: Rob Davie, aka BigJetDriver I am very very shocked by this news. I was just speaking to Rob and Fred Evans online, and in less than 30 days both are deceased from recent diving accidents. My sincere condolences to family and friends. The fatalities listed on this board over the past year among very skilled operators of RBs, regardless of make, is extraordinarily disturbing.

| Rebreather World Writer ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: In memorium: Rob Davie, aka BigJetDriver This is the worst news I could have read. Rob was a very good friend, an extremely good person and knowledge diver. I feel I am very lucky to had the oppurtunity to met him on internet in 2003 and to spent some time with him in Texas in 2004. I still remember the time we spent talking about rebreathers and...aircrafts...as well as military topics and more in his house in Houston. And how to say thanks for his help about flying tickets to europe! Rob you will be in our heart forever. My condolences to family. arrivederci Rob, gabriele |

The way Rob addressed Lou as Miss Lou and myself as Mr Bean always made me chuckle. RebreatherWorld won’t be the same without you Rob. Farewell Mr Davie Mr Bean

| PRISM DIVER & LUVIN IT! Current Rebreather/s: | Re: In memorium: Rob Davie, aka BigJetDriver There are very few individuals who have the ability to inspire, educate, and humble. Rob Davie was that person. Although our correspondence was limited to emails and forum posting, his presence is of great loss! My thoughts and prayers will always include you. God-speed. Martin

| Re: In memorium: Rob Davie, aka BigJetDriver I have been stunned for a few days now after learning that Rob has went on his last dive. He and I met over 10 years ago and while attending various courses I was teaching over the next few years we became best of friends. Rob was one of those students who was never satisfied with the material being taught, but always wanted more information and then some more. Always in a learning and discovery mode. Eager to learn and eager to share that knowledge with others. I will accept the loss of Rob at sometime in the future with the knowledge that Rob did matter to a lot of people. An old friend of mine always told me, that if you can make a difference in the lives of a few people during your lifetime, you have done well. Rob made a difference in the lives of many people and that is something to be very proud of. I will miss you a lot, my friend. frans vandermolen |
