Re: Gordon Smith

Sad news.
My deepest condolences.
Gordon was such a great man. Even those who didn't know him personally could get this through his posts or in a 10mn phone conversation.
We'll miss him too.

Re: Gordon Smith

This news is incredibly heartbreaking, to lose such a wonderful and complex man. His wit, humor and genius in making complex issues simple was unparalleled. My thoughts are with Kim and his family.

Rest in Peace Gordon, and my condolences Kim. I met them in the last NEC Dive show and both were very friendly. He will be remembered for sure.

Re: Gordon Smith

I just can't believe it. You meet someone one day, they're gone the next.

To a pioneer. We'll drink to him tonight.

Digs.

Re: Gordon Smith

Only knowing Gordon second hand, I know the Rebreather Arena has lost a true pioneer and the world has lost a great person. Being a Jetsam dealer, I know his accomplishments will stand the test of time. Best wishes and condolences to his friends and family.

Re: Gordon Smith

I have lost a brother.

Gordon, from the first moment I met you, you were family. I remember when we met on the Nautilus Explorer, you were in the Whinnie the Pooh drysuit underwear and the hat with the little pink ears that Bruce posted the picture of.
I was laughing so hard i was crying, like now.
I told you, in a room full, with some of the worlds best divers, "I dont know if I am enough in touch with my manhood to wear something like that." and you told me "well sailor, if you play your cards right, you could get in touch with mine" ....and so it began... my friendship with you was treasured, dive trips, visits to your shop and home, my calls with stupid questions, your patience with me while I piddled with my dolphin fitting up your remarkable valve. You ran up your lathe just to make a custom part for me. Thank you, again and again.

We sat around for 3 or so hours playing the joke game, while others tried to stump us, the time when Craig came from PNG to show slides. That may have been the last time I had a drink...small wonder.

The boxing day trip with Mike over to Vancouver Island, when we strapped him into a KISS for the first time and pushed him off of INDE during 30knot winds and a brutal cold rainstorm. Kim, smart girl, stayed on the big boat. Mike looked at me with his mask fogging up like a kid who didnt want to go sledding and said, "just think, in six more months we will be in Socorro". I laughed and strapped on a 40cf bailout cylinder and pointed him at the water that was churned up with whitecaps where you were patiently waiting to take him on the "beginners course" and I stayed with INDE because we were worried the anchor would pull loose.

At Zero Gravity in the Caymans, Sunset house wouldnt let me dive my CCR dolphin for insurance reasons, so you brought me out a KISS classic to use for the trip, and then, over lunch during the week, with the incredible honesty and candor you are known for, talked me into buying a Meg, you knew it was more suited for the diving I do.

The stories go on and on, just like our memories will, there are others who knew you like I do, and some who knew you better, but I know I will miss you more than I have missed anyone who has left my life.

I dont know what to believe about the afterlife, all I know is, I hope I end up in the same place you are, cause Im going to kick your ass for bailing out of this dive early. I know that wherever you are, the place is getting reengineered as we speak and it will be a better place, if it isnt already.

Kim, my heart goes out to you, huge hugs, please let me know if I can do anything for you.

Ron
