Denz - aka Denzel - aka Dennis Barendregt

Earlier today Dennis Barendregt (Denzel) died from what appears to be a pre-existing medical condition. He had apparently just started his shift on the drill rig when he collapsed.

We often joked about his height (6'10"), but the biggest part of him was his heart. I can't find the words to express how much he will be missed by those of us who knew and loved him.

Ben

Unhappy Re: Denz - R.I.P.

This is really sad news, and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
I'll miss his sense of humor, the many one liners I got from him.

Denz, thanks for the laughs.

Re: Denz

This is more very sad news.

We seem to be losing too many good people from our community.

Why does it always have to be the larger than life characters who raise our spirits with their quick humour and often their ability to calm heated situations.

I had never met Denzel but had many a laugh to his posts and will miss his humour.

A sad loss to our community and Rebreather World and more importantly to his family and friends.

Rest In Peace Dennis.

My Darling Denz; my Thriller Driller, Mozzie-Wrangler, Supplier of Noodles and Provider of Google Missions; The Big Guy who brought me so much joy, so much friendship and so much love. I have no words to say how much I will miss you. 16 400 km meant nothing, because you were always held close to our hearts.

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you Baby...

Love and knuffles, as always,

Re: Denz

That is sad.

My only dealings with Denzel was on-line and I hoped to catch up with him in person and see the personality.

All the best Denzel, take care.

Re: Denz

Denz moved to Australia about a year and a half ago after working here for a few years and then spending a year back in the land of wooden shoes. I gave Denz a place to live until he got everything sorted in his new life. Well, half a year later Denz got himself a place of his own, had progressed well in his new career as a driller and was on his way. He had found a new home, had made a lot of new friends here in Perth that hold him dearly and was on his way. Good money, good mates, nice new house, new toys and an invigorated lease on life.

He was on his off shift week last week and SA Dave flew over to hang out. We had a fun big weekend of drinking and talking shit. A fun time was had by all. Denz flew back to his mining camp site yesterday morning for another couple of weeks drilling holes in the Aussie Outback looking for Iron Ore.

I knocked off work early yesterday, and had just got changed and there was a knock at the door. It was a guy from Denz company and he was looking for Denz next of kin. The poor guy had a job in HR. He drove a desk for a living and to his credit he didn't tell me that Denz was dead but his face said it all. I made some calls and we found Denz next of kin who was on the other side of the country.

My fears were confirmed about an hour later.

I really liked living with Denz. We drank a lot of cheap wine. Talked a lot of crap and learnt a lot from each other. His look at the world was very different to mine and he was great at opening my eyes to different ways of looking at things. He was a big goofy lug that was wise beyond his years.

I'm missing you Denz. Thanks for being a mate.
