Very sad news indeed and another member from our community who has posted here for the last time.

My deepest sympathies are with his family and friends at this dreadful time.

Terrible news and I couldn't bring myself to come onto Rebreather World yesterday after Ben called me. I'm glad that I haven't been on RBW so regularly of late and Ben had the chance to call me before I logged on. He had a heart of gold and always made sure my non-diver wife, Alicia, was included when the rest of the gang were waffling on about rebreathers and diving and reminded me how lucky I was to have her

She will miss being hoisted in the air with his big bear hugs. Anyway, still trying to take in that I only saw him on Friday and won't get the chance to see him again. I still have an SMS from him on my phone sent in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. I'm glad that CD has video of him so we can still see and hear him as he was. Sadly, when I was with Denz I was usually too busy laughing to get round to breaking out the camera. Sorry, I'm probably starting to ramble - I'm really going to miss you big guy. Steve, I can't imagine how it must have felt to be the one to answer the door. Emms, Steve, Chriso, CD, Ben, and anyone else close to him that I may not know if you need anything at all to help get you through this, you know how to find me. See you tonight. RIP Denzx

My wife and I knew Dennis from a trip on the Nimrod,
and much correspondence since...

We're just gutted.

This is such sad news given that Denz was such a fun loving guy.

Very sad and quite surreal for me as I had a long chat on the phone with Denz on Monday and got the terrible news the next day.

We'll all miss you mate.

I am truly stunned and gutted - a skype from abowie made me check Rebreather World as I have been snowed under in work and its not good

To all who came out tonight, thankyou. I'm not going to name names, because I know I'll miss someone. It was much appreciated to view all the familiar faces, to meet some new ones, and I'm sure he was looking down on us and appreciating that we were having a drink in his name.
We received from his company today the bag of all his personal effects that he had with him, including his money clip with $70 in it. We all knew that it'd be what he wanted, to shout that last round, so it was organised to be so.
Exact details to follow, but there will be a memorial service for him here in Perth on Tuesday. I'll post more when I know the full details, and also try and let everyone know.

Tuesday 11th December 2007, there will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Dennis Barendregt.
It will be held at the chapel of Purslowe Funerals, 15 Scarborough Beach Road, North Perth.
There will be an open casket, with viewing from 4:30pm until approximately 5:30pm, and a DVD slide-show presentation showing, followed by a service with the celebrant Mrs Kim Brown. After the service, a Diveoz / Rebreather World member who lives in the area has kindly offered the use of his house for a gathering. I won't post the exact details of someone's private residence on the internet, just grab me at the service for details.
All are welcome and invited to the service. Full details can be viewed at
Dennis Jansen Barendregt - Australian Funeral and Death Notice
After the service, Dennis' body will be repatriated to Holland, where his family will be holding a funeral and cremation. Anyone in Holland or Europe who wants details, please drop me a PM, and I'll find out for you.
Some of Denz's remains are staying in Holland, and some of him will be coming back to Australia, where he chose to call home. Current plans (and its a bit of a ways out, details are yet to be worked out, obviously we have had more pressing issues this week), Denz had booked and paid for a private charter on 25th January, for his 35th Birthday, which was to be on 28th Jan. There will be a memorial, celebration, and spreading of the ashes on that day. Obviously spots on the boat will be at a premium, so closer to the date, we'll start getting RSVP's and work out if we need another boat.
I look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday afternoon, and again in January.

On Saturday, Denz and I went to AQWA, the aquarium of Western Australia. Denz made (as he always does, wherever he goes!!!) some new friends...
