![]() | Re: In memorium: Sven Paepke. The first reply to my introduction on Rebreather World was from Sven. The very next day I met Sven at Bazza's Shop here in Sydney. Even though Sven was there as a customer this gentleman sat down and talked and talked as an immediate mentor for Scott and I as we neared the end of our course. Sven was from "The Shire" as well and we immediately hit it off well. It was so clear that Sven was conscious of diving safety which he hammered home in his mentoring chats, emails and phone converations in the following weeks. Words fail me how low and gutted I felt when I heard of this tragedy early Sunday. To his dive buddies at the Sydney Project my eternal respect for your valiant efforts to rescue Sven.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: In memorium: Sven Paepke. Sven was a great dive buddy, friend and advocate for diving. Our trimix training, many dives on rebreathers shallow, deep and that last time a few months ago, on sand at the same site, are only part of his legacy that will continue. His calm, deliberate and above all safe approach to diving, be it in the water, chatting over coffee post-dive in a cafe of shop or on-line, was an example for all. To Pat, the families and friends, Lucy & I have you in our thoughts and prayers. Sven, rest easy mate. You'll back home soon.

Condolences to family and friends and sympathy for the guys who weren't able to bring him back. Must have been heartbreaking. Only met Sven in person once at the troll cave, but in everything he wrote he showed his passion for diving. Mike

| Moderator ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: In memorium: Sven Paepke. I only ever met Sven once, at Oztek in March this year, we didn't even get that much time to talk, as I was on the Divetek stand, he was on the Sydney Project / Rebreather World combined stand. But through the job we both share here as moderators, we've ended up having many dealings online. Sven was always friendly, polite, helpful, and his postings were always well thought out and insightful. To the two guys who tried to get him back, hats off to you, thanks for trying, you're both heroes in my book. ![]() To Pat, the rest of his family, and all his close friends, my sincerest condolences.
