Re: problem with my new meg

Just had some emails from Leon, very quick reply.
He told me to try to rotate the button, and since it doesn't work, he told me to try to change it.
I will buy the correct key tomorrow (any reference? torks?), if it doesn't work ISC will take all the charges for labor/materials/shipping.

I will let you know...thanks andy for the picture.
any reference for the correct key? any specific procedure to follow to dismantle the handset cover?

The allen key size is going 3/16 I think, as far as tork goes as long as the retainer is flush with the body it will be fine and hand tight.

Re: problem with my new meg

You and I are perhaps the 2 in the 500 units or so delivered with a defect.
I had exactly the same problem (some 18 months ago) and was due to a broken conductor.

The ISC guys will take this very seriously. This (the malfunction) has been the only disappointment I have ever experienced.

Re: problem with my new meg

dont take the face plate off the handset, only the top cover around the buttons, the screws are a allen or hex head. There are no user servicable parts inside the handset, you dont want to break that seal. the buttons have no seal they act magnetically through the plastic.

Re: problem with my new meg

thanks Ron,

yes I realized that I didn't have to unscrew the handset plastic face with Andy's picture and when he gave me a standard allen key size, since the cover is fixed by star shape screws.
Anyway, the problem is not coming from the button, but from the inside of the handset, Leon told me it is probably the magnetic reed switch.
The head is already on its way the be repaired.
I must say that Leon provide me a great service, he is making what could be possible to repair it asap.
I will let you know when I will have the final report.

The reed switch is a good guess.. They are glass and can be damaged by excessive g-force during transport.. Its not something common but it can happen..

Re: problem with my new meg

the saga of my meg have a new chapter:

I just recieved my head from repair (it was the magnetic reed switch in the primary handset).
Unfortunately it was damaged during the shipping.
I think S.O. opened the box, played with the head, forgot to switch off the primary battery box (the battery was low when it came home), and make it fall on the ground.

So:

-primary battery box broken (connector...need a new entire battery box).
-Solenoid plastic support broken
-one battery out.
-cover and bottom of seconday battery box damaged (still working, could be repaired with some epoxy glue if the insurance doesn't cover the costs.)

I unscrewed the secondary battery box, to connect it to the primary handset and ckeck if the solenoid was still firing...

The good points are:

electronic seems to work normally
solenoid works.
cells support is safe,
....

So most of the expensive parts of the head are not damaged.

But it begin to make me *** as I have never put my meg on my back and it has never been wet.

Called Leon yesterday, he will send the new battery box and the solenoid support to Aldo, since I have my cross-over course in less than one week.
Now I have to battle with the shipping insurance to try to make them cover the costs.
