Help, I have been Megged...

Ordered my Meg yesterday. With a COPIS head, in anticipation of the new APECS III head in 6 months? Training to be obtained from the Master himself, Mid April.

What are the biggest features of the APECS III? I am thinking of placing an order for a Meg in the next 2 weeks...major or minor differences for a first time Meg owner? Maybe I should wait?

I think I'm going to be following suit with the same plan in the next couple of weeks.

The major difference is that the Apex III will be a full decompression computer like the HH or Shearwater. My understanding is that it will not have RGBM in it. The Apex II monitors the system itself (sensors and solenoid,etc...) but offers no time, depth, deco info etc...
If you wait it will most likely be several months away, and even then do you want the first generation????
The Apex II Meg is a rock-solid unit...why wait???

Thanks for that info. Your point about 1stG anything is quite right. In any case, I don't think I want a decompression computer built into my rig. My VR3's have always worked well for me - old habits. I like to diversify my points of failure.

Re: Help, I have been Megged...

It is my understanding that the Apecs 3 will be built on the Gradient Factor model - thought I read that in another thread.
I couldn't agree more about not buying first generation stuff right after it comes out, but I would not hesitate to buy the Apecs 3 when it hits the market. I don't think Leon is in the habit of releasing a buggy product. It will be released when it is ready.

Re: Help, I have been Megged...

why not get a copis to start and then get the apecs III head when it is on the market. that way you have two heads in case of a failure your dive trip can continue (now i'm not saying the head will fail but is it always nice to have a spare ). also starting on a mCCR is often a good choice and can get you in the water now, vs. waiting for the apecs III.
just my thoughts.

Justin feel free to email me if you want any info on the COPIS and/or APECS megs

i think you are very very right on this one Louis.

I am one of those who really want something when it first comes out, but when it comes to diving, i wait for some time to hear reviews from others. There is no security in the world whatsoever i guess, no matter how many promises you might be given, that things will work fine. As far as the Apex II comment, you are right again. It rocks, so why change something that is really working to something you are going to be testing. I am not saying that this is not a good thing. i am saying that i would not be the first to buy.

So come on boys, give us some reviews once you have the new toys....

Cheers,

Spyros
