Meg Specs

Hi all,

I'm looking to place an order with Leon for a Meg but have a few of questions before I get my plastic out.

What are the first stages that Leon supplies? I've seen mention somewhere about them being Scubapros? If so what model are they? Would be handy as I'm Scubapro Tech trained...

The cylinder mount system that comes as standard, is it that much of a pain to remove/replace cylinders with it? Does it make Tiger Mounts/G-Snaps a real necessity for tool-less removal/convenience?

Is there any other additional kit that needs to be added to the Meg package for it to then be 'ready to dive' (Other than a wing of course ).
The last thing I want is to find out I've left something off my shopping/budget list

I've already selected the following add-ons which I've seen here on the forum are the normal additions: ADV, Dil Iso Valve, Mixed Gas Man Bypass, oh and of course Shearwater elecs with HUD!

Okay I think that's it for the hardware side.

I'll post my question on Training in the Training forum just so I don't upset anyone

Cheers in advance for your help & comments guys,

Neil

Hi Neil,

The first stages are Scubapros, but i don't have mine to hand for the exact model at present. You can fit Poseidon Extremes if you like.

If you are bringing your Meg back to the UK I would recommend that you source your cylinders here, no burst disks here!!

Tiger gear is very good IMHO and avoids the ali/steel problems you may encounter when fitting G-snaps.

Apart from that you seem to have it squared away spec wise. You won't regret your decision.

Take care,

Dave Cooper.

Tiger Gear or G-snaps are preferred to the standard mount. If you have a few sets of cylinders or need to refil between dives, the tool-free change is a requirement as far as I am concerned. I prefer the g-snaps to tiger gear myself, but they are both workable options.

The other mod that I have done that improves the diveability off of boats is to add a cylinder boot (OMS for 7" steel tanks) with a spacer inside (PVC drainage pipe fitting) to lengthen the main cannister a 3-4 inches (7 - 10cm for those who don't habla imperial measures...). It makes donning and doffing the unit on a rocking boat much easier.

Otherwise, it looks like you've got it sussed-out.

Hey Tim,

you got a picture with the boot on - I like the idea of making the can sit up a bit higher.

Hey Neil

The standard 1st stages that Leon offers are SCUBAPRO MK 2+ Dins. But you can put on any 1st stages you like.

The MK 2's are dead simple to service and can take a real beating.

I've used MK 25's on mine, just because I found the hose routings a little easier and SCUBAPRO manufactures Oxygen compatible HP seats for it but not for the MK 2 and having survived one OX fire already I'm kinda anal about that. But you don't need that kinda performance on a rebreather 1st stage that your not drawing on directly.

Cheers

Seb

Cheers for the info Seb,

That's good news as I totally agree with you on the MK2's. The dive school I was working at used them and I had less trouble with them than MK16's. As for servicing they are an absolute doddle to do, making field stripping possible.

But the MK2's can be a real pain for hose routing due to the lack of a swivelling LP barrel.

Likewise the MK20/25's I've found are also a great 1st stage that are easily stripped & serviced but hose routing is so much easier.

Think I'll end up using my MK25's from my twinset with the O2 service kit as I also don't much like the idea of having high pressure O2 in contact with non O2 service parts.

Neil

1st Stage O2 Compatability

Hi all,

I have another question regarding the 1st stages on the Meg.

If I opt for the standard Scubapro MK2's how are they made O2 compatible as Scubapro do not supply an O2 service kit for them?

I must admit to not being that confident in using them on the O2 side without being sure they won't try and burn the Meg and anything else (boat!) to cinders.

Are the Poseidons that are supplied as an option O2 cleaned?

Thanks,

Neil

Hi mate,

I talk my own Poseidons out and my mate Nige (underpressure) O2 cleaned them before I went out for me...

In terms of how they clean them at the factory Ron Micjan might know, failing that give Steve or Leon a bell.

Neil, the PRISM also comes with Scubapro MK2 first stages and SMI cleans one for oxygen service.
