| Supporting Member ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Meg weight and buoyancy Hi everyone.. I am curious if anyone has actually has some numbers for these? Dry weight of the Meg (no tanks, no tank mounts, no wing, no back plate... but including the hoses, regulators, DSV, counterlungs) The floodable volume of the loop... but, I don't think I want to include the actual counter lungs into that too much, because on full inhale, they should be fairly empty, so not very buoyant.. so not really contributing to a change in buoyancy in a full flood with bailout to open circuit. That said, I can always subtract the volume of the counterlungs if someone has the total amount =) I'd be interested in knowing both for the full Meg can, and the Mini Meg.. (I'm trying to figure out how much my bach is going to ache when my baby is delivered ![]() If noone has this info.. I'll figure it out on my Meg when it comes... for any future inquiries. Take care, and thanks Scott |

| Re: Meg weight and buoyancy The following are approximate, based on memory of bag weighing exercise for flight. Can with empty cartridge 7Kg. Add DSV, regs, loop add another 7 Kg I think. head is another 4 Kg's. I'm unsure about the loop volume as well. 9-10L comes to mind. Mine, with tanks/sorb/BP all assembled is 35 Kg. I sink like a rock with it (with over-shortied wetsuit and no weight). Sorry not much help. Only that I have a altered back structure that handles the above weight without too much problem. Watch out for those herniated discs! |

| Re: Meg weight and buoyancy Thank you =) Naw, still lighter than a set of double al80s. I can dive my meg in fresh water with a 7mil wetsuit a SS BP and no lead at all. That is with minimal loop volume. I add a couple of pounds to allow me to stay neutral for O2 flushes and such.Wish I could afford either a sherpa or a chiropractor =) I'm going to need one of them.. Don't know why you're concerned about flooded weight, never happen ![]()

Have fun form another new Meg guy Regards nick

I won't start my official training until Jan 25th.. but my theories on utter most worst case scenario.... if the meg floods completely and I dont have enough buoyancy to surface.. I'm cutting it loose and doing a swimming ascent with my bailout... my life = worth more than 7 grand +/- USD IF I am comfortable enough at the time of the situation, I'd go ahead and clip my primary reel to it and then let it drop.. spooling out... so it would be easier to recover... I'm trying to decide on the best wing right now.. I would really love to be able to use my 18# oxycheq.. but I don't know if I would be comfortable with it... I've used it with an aluminum 80, my back plate, and a lp45... so figure I had roughly 12+ pounds of negative buoyancy strapped to me..5/4 full suit, 1mm hooded vest, fresh water and I was very comfy with it.. it doesn't get me very far out of the water on the surface.. but I never have had a dive in rough water.. so it's been a non issue thus far... It might work for me on the Meg.. Really depends on how negative she comes out to be under operation, I guess.. Thanks, Scott |

Your training should include flood recovery, and as far as I know, there are very few plausible scenarios where you want to remove your rig.IF I am comfortable enough at the time of the situation, I'd go ahead and clip my primary reel to it and then let it drop.. spooling out... so it would be easier to recover... | Re: Meg weight and buoyancy Phi (or anyone else...) Can I pose the question slightly differently: Assume a fully assembled Meg with 3lt steel fabers, full scrubber etc. Ignore backplate as that will be the same. How does the Meg compare to twin faber 12's , bands, manifold and regs ? If I have that data then I can get my weighting pretty close when I do the course after easter..... Cheers Steve |
