| Radial scrubber flow pic As I told a number of folks at DEMA, I’d done a 4 ½ hour pool test on a prototype short radial scrubber the week before the show. I thought my antique digital camera had eaten the chip that recorded the result- it showed 0 mb on chip in computer. Saturday I was cleaning out a drawer and fount the old serial download cable for that camera, and I figured with nothing to lose I’d give it a try hooked up to the USB- serial converter I use for my VR3 IR head. To my great surprise, it worked! It also took me back to the S-L-O-W days when it took 30 to 45 seconds per low res shot to download (and a 2.4 Kbps modem was considered *fast*). The attached picture shows a “slice” of the spent bed inside that radial scrubber. It was achieved by duct taping a smaller tube to the hose of a shop vacuum and carefully removing the sorb an inch at a time. The color change is typical of the entire scrubber bed except for the top and bottom ¼ inch where the color band was a bit wider as one would expect. My inner geek thought the clear depiction of basic flow dynamics was just too cool not to post.Ken |
