| Which Computer with a Meg I am just starting to save for my rebreather adventure. My first step is to get a computer that I can learn to use and will fit nicely with a Meg. I am thinking about a VR3 possibly an HR explorer. Then there is always the shearwater. Anyway my question is... what do you dive and why? What would you reccomend? |

| Re: Which Computer with a Meg My preference is the computer between my ears backed up with tables. I have one buddy that dives an older Cochran with VPM closed circuit on it and another that dives a VR3. The Cochran comes closest to VPM up to about 150' and then gets too conservative. The VR3 gives entirely too much deco IMO, but that may just be my buddys settings on it although I don't think so. Personally, I'll stick with the tables, espcially for the extreme stuff. | Re: Which Computer with a Meg I have two Shearwaters, one is integrated into my KISS Classic and the other I dive as a standalone at a constant PO2. I have owned the HSE, VR3 and Cochran. The Shearwater is easier to use and has been very reliable. The display is easy to read and the computer is very easy to set up. I know you can integrate the Shearwater into both the APECS and COPIS Megs. You can dive the Shearwater as a stand alone at first and then wire it in later. It is very inexpensive and easy to integrate it into your new MEG. You then have a full real time deco trimix CCR computer. The Shearwater in my opinion is the way to go. |

| Re: Which Computer with a Meg Why not just keep putting the money aside and wait for apes 3 to come along as the handset will be detachable and act as stand alone decopression computers. Two reasons:- Rev1 electronics....some like the bleeding edge, some don't. - Historic delivery schedule in the rebreather industry. Waiting for Apecs 3 may entail significant wait times. After a long history of diving tables and BT on OC, I bought an ISC-supplied Shearwater meg. The integrated deco was very nice. I am sure I would not like to have two handsets plus another computer on my wrists. My hammermeg conversion is scheduled to show up today to replace the failed shearwaer electronics. My thoughts are that if you want a deco computer, integrated is the way to go. Last edited by trob09 : 25th October 2006 at 13:31. |

I recommend the Shearwater as well. It functions stand alone as well as integrates with a number of different Rebreather units. The menu system is intuitive, it's very easy to read and has fantastic battery life. Bruce has given me excellent service and it is very competitively priced!

| Re: Which Computer with a Meg Sounds like the Shearwater is the favorite so far. I have been trying to find more info on it but have come up short. Do they have a website with the specs? How many algo's does it support? How many mixes and are they switchable underwater? thanks again for your help. I respect current ccr divers opinions. I do not know many personally. |
