| Re: Which Computer with a Meg Sounds like the Shearwater is the favorite so far. I have been trying to find more info on it but have come up short. Do they have a website with the specs? How many algo's does it support? How many mixes and are they switchable underwater? thanks again for your help. I respect current ccr divers opinions. I do not know many personally. The website is Shearwater Research Inc. - Computers for open ciruit and rebreathers the unit provides for 5 OC gasses and 5 CC gasses and you can switch u/w, it also does not lock you out if you should violate the profile.

| Re: Which Computer with a Meg i According to Leon, there was no "upgrade" to existing heads, you'd have to buy a new head with Apecs 3. He did say that he would provide current Meg owners a bonus by givig them a Mini meg canister and scrubber.is that true gadget i had'nt heard that it was gonna be detachable, how cool is that .. have you heard anything on price yet for converting a 2.01k???? |

| Re: Which Computer with a Meg Ok I have read most of the shearwater manual. A couple questions still: Does the computer turn on with an increase in pressure at the start of a dive or do you have to turn it on before starting the dive? If it does turn on (about) when? Can you set up new gasses while on the dive or do you have to use what you have set up pre dive? Also how do you turn on the backlight duing a dve if you have it to stay on say only 30 seconds? |

The computer turns on when you hit the water. It has a water sensor. However, you should be turning it on before you jump in so that you can check out all your Rebreather functions during your pre-breathing period. You set up all your gases before you get in the water (very easy to do). You can move to any of the programmed gases during the dive. The computer will also tell you the best gas you should be on based on the ones available and the depth you are at. You can set up the back light to stay on for various amounts of time and it is activated by touching one of the buttons. This computer does very well on power consumption, even with the back lite on all the time. I have set mine up that way. When the computer is on, the back lite is on. Bruce says that it only shortens the battery life slightly. The back lite makes viewing the screen really nice and it has big numbers and letters. | Liquid Productions, LLC Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Which Computer with a Meg As with many of the other HS Explorer owners, I have mixed feelings. I absolutely LOVE the computer, setup, and RGBM selections available on it. The stops line up almost exactly with GAP software, which complicates life a little less. But... Mine as well as quite a few of my friends have had to ship them back on a regular basis because of one problem or another. It's truley a shame that he has not been able to make them more hearty and less apt to break. I think once (or if) the quality problems are resolved, it would be the computer of all computers to have. On another note - I have one friend who has been diving his HS for 3 or 4 years, and he dives a lot, and hasn't had a single problem. Luck of the draw maybe? I'm still not giving up on mine, and I love Ron's mount for it on the Meg, but I never leave home without a pocketful of backup tables. The only complaint, besides the quality issue, is that those buttons hurt like hell after you have been in the water for a few hours with no gloves! |
