Re: Homebuilt Meg Radial Scrubber Excellent work, Ken, and excellent article. Hey Stefan-Pics, drawings, everything, one could ask for more. Told you they would love it. ![]() Guess you were right after all! Hey Ken, Hi Brian-Just out of curiosity--how many pounds of sorb does it hold? Brian It's buried in the article, but I'd be the first to admit that's a pretty big hole to bury stuff in .I do most of my diving these days w/ Grace 6-12. That grade weighed in at 7.5 lb on a balance beam scale. I had a just enough out of date Sofnolime 8-12 in an old jug to test weigh w/ that. Tipped the scales at 8.1 lb. Smaller average size grain = less "open" volume & more kitty litter inside. Ken

Re: Homebuilt Meg Radial Scrubber Thanks Ken It has been a great pleasure diving this scrubber and my hats off to Ken's ingenuity, engineering ability and good graces to allow me to dive one of these bad boys. I have had the same good results that Ken has posted in his article on use in cold water depths in 60 - 90 meters range, and scrub time. The scrubber is very easy to fill, but caution in regards to proper packing; several people that I have dove with that used a Cis canister packed along a small vibrator to assure proper setteling of the granuals. (being rather sheltered I belive this was the truth) Properly applied vibration by Mr. Buzzy, and cupfull of sorb at a time, the packing was slow by any standards. The Cis canister is a pain in the arse to fill - small fill holes, quirky end caps, etc. The Swain design is very easy.My experience has been that any hasty packing has resulted in settled chemical that can leave a rather large gap in the top of the scrubber and bypass any chemical interaction. Without the assistance of Mr. Buzzy, my clumsy hands spanking the sides of the canister have caused a small seperation of the outer screen. ( I don't know if this is possible ) but if you have the availablity of spot welding the seam on the outer screen this may prevent a seam seperation - of course be gentle and don't spank the sides too hard! Gentel tapping is always the prefered method of setteling any chemical in a scrubber cartridge.... In addition to Ken's oxygen calibration tool which I find a superior design, yet incredibly simple and practicle in parts resource, this scrubber is a testiment to the meticulos and precise work that Ken performs - and he drinks great scotch so not a bad dive buddie all in all.... deep thought

And I second Patti's comment about the mini Meg.What about making one for the mini meg. I could be another protype girl...![]() Also, while I was looking at materials for such a product, I found some interesting materials for the screen part. Have you considered this product? Processing/Industries Looks like it is multi functional - a structural part as well as sorb screen. Thanks again. ![]()

Re: Homebuilt Meg Radial Scrubber great article. Awww, Patti- What about making one for the mini meg. I could be another protype girl...![]() How could you be a prototype? You’re strictly a ‘one-off’ since when they made you they broke the mold! Great question, though. Already been done for my homebrew MicroMeg. Only alterations to design are to use just one filter screen vs 2 and to shorten the outer shell/ screen assembly appropriately. A custom height spacer is of course required since it is shorter than the MiniMeg axial yet it holds15% MORE ‘sorb.…….Best, Ken

Re: Homebuilt Meg Radial Scrubber great article. We have a radial scrubber for Meg. First production run is in progress. It fits the movie Meg without insert, just absorbent pad at the bottom ( I have been diving it for past 8 months) and standard Meg with insert. I am sure we can fit it to the mini Meg as well. Just need the dimensions. What about making one for the mini meg. I could be another protype girl...![]()
