| Re: Newly certified Meg divers As for the layout of the Meg. It has 2 potted computers that have seperate power supplies. Their only common point is the sensors. Both diisplays show the pO2 of all 3 sensors. The primary controlls the solenoid and the secondary the HUD. So, in general, the similar concept as the HH minus the deco calculation and battery in the head instead in the wrist unit ?

Yes. Will was damn good at his stuff and is missed. One can only wonder where the Meg and the HH would be if he were still here.

| Re: Newly certified Meg divers Not to take anything away from Will, since he was probably my best friend as well as partner - but... The last version of electronics that Will designed was what we called the "3rd Gen" which was installed in some Mark 15's and the early Megs. This was a through-hole component design utilizing a PIC processor, and requiring a minimum of 7.2 volts to operate (standard was a 9v Alkaline). Will and I were kicking around the Gen 4 ideas when he died. After that, I continued on my own, with all new ideas (some of which Will had hated, like the FO2 command), new SMT design, and entirely new Code. Leon decided, after some negotiations with me, to try and develop his own set. That led to the Apecs 1 and 2. Will wasn't a fan of having the display mounted to the actual electronics. The Mark 15 designs we built had the electronics in a pod, with the display outboard. In that way, he liked the method that Leon still employs. He had other "interesting" ideas: One of his designs called for converting the O2 sensor info to Serial Data AT THE SENSORS, (which would have required a small A/D + Serial Converter, and yet another battery), which would then go to a control board in the Head, which would then transmit Display info out to the Wrist Unit - I still have those boards here, since I built them - but I really didn't care for that idea at all - one more battery didn't seem like a good idea to me... (Sorry, Will old boy... ).Anyway - because after he passed away it was just me, I started fresh, and designed the "Hammerhead" just the way I wanted it (with tons of input from Dave Thompson, Mike Dyson, Bob Howell, Mad Mole, and many, many others of course). BTW: The name "Hammerhead" came directly from Tom Mount. When I was building him the very first prototype, he would call me nearly every day, asking as to my progress. One day, out of a bit of frustration, I said to him "I'm putting your Head together with a Hammer and some Glue" - to which he said "hey - you ought to call it the 'Hammerhead'". The rest is history... Anyway, over the years we've added lots of features to the set, but never forgot the basic principles that Will and I fleshed out oh so many years ago. (a) Keep it as simple as possible, and easy to use (b) Try to keep the diver alive no matter what (c) Don't allow the diver to kill themselves Anyone who looks at our system neutrally, will see that we have strived to keep to those principles. Like ALL eCCR's currently in the marketplace, there have been problems and issues - but whenever a problem has arisen, we have jumped right on it to make corrections, even at great expense. And to be sure, we haven't stopped innovating, and many new things are on the horizon. Will was probably the smartest man I've ever known, and without a doubt, the one guy would could make me laugh until I nearly peed myself. I am very proud to have been able to do the same for him, and to have counted him as my friend. To a very large degree, I would not be in the position I'm in now without his influence. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and the little girl (Trinity) that he left behind. But life goes on, and all we can do is keep on working to make our sport as good and as safe as it can be, while (hopefully) having some fun. Kevin Juergensen Juergensen Marine, Inc. |

| Re: Newly certified Meg divers I spoke to Dennis today about the issue of the inhale counterlung. It is in fact a second exhale lung that has the VR3 fourth cell holder placed in the lung at the ADV fitting. That is why the lung also has a dump valve. Dennis developed the VR3 fitting in conjunction with ISC. Cheers, Dave Cooper.
