| Re: Meg Radial Scrubber Test report Quote: (Originally Posted by dive2dive2000) I fail to see the advantage of a Radial scrubber in a Meg because of its gas flow direction. BUt with you and Cedrics right ups obviously I am misunderstanding the releavance of gas direction and radial scrubbers, or am I? Please inlighten me The advantages of radial over axial are indeed debatable, but in the Meg there is one advantage that is straightforward and hard to argue with: significant additional volume for ‘sorb. ![]() The axial requires a spacer on the bottom to let the breathing gas flow around its end. Space is also needed for the spring/ bar mechanism that maintains pressure on the ‘sorb pack. With the radial, all that space can be dedicated to more ‘sorb. In the case of the homebuilt radial scrubber I designed & built for my Meg, the volume is a whopping 40% more. Form follows function and I’m sure the ISC design is in the same ball park. Best, Ken |

If Meg + radial scrubber = more sorb hence longer rating (very long according to Cedric's tests) How about... Mini-meg + Mini Radial scrubber = longer rating than normal meg with normal scrubber? Result- Smalller rebreather's for all? Just Friday afternoon musing....

| Earning the green stuff.. Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Meg Radial Scrubber Test report I'm with you Ben. Seems like everyone wants a bigger/badder rebreather. No one is really going the other way. I would love to have to wear 15 lbs of lead to get down. That can be taken off and would leave you with a rig that is lighter than OC gear and really make the rest of the boat jealous and my back happy when loading the car. ![]()

| Re: Meg Radial Scrubber Test report I'm sorry guys, but how small do you want that thing? As it is, it's 6" too short for me. Make it smaller, and I'll have to strap it onto my hood. I'd rather have a tall thin unit that is hydrodynamic than a short hump on my back. Call me Igor.

Smal enough to wear two on your back, Small enough to wear it sideslung with its tanks and lungs as a BOB, Small enough to take it caving in sidemount territory, Small enough to carry as hand luggage even now, Small enough so you can shore dive after hiking 5miles from the car, Small enough so it looks really tiny and cool :-) Making stuff smaller opens up lots of potential, best of all it'd surely be lighter for the same duration, something bad back suffers will be attracted by! Agreed that kitting up becomes a problem but to be honest unless it causes a problem underwater I'm willing to overlook onland/boat difficulties, so long as things perform in their chosen enviroment as they should. Very interesting thread.... now, how much is a Meg ![]()

Make it smaller, and I'll have to strap it onto my hood. I'd rather have a tall thin unit that is hydrodynamic than a short hump on my back. Call me Igor. Use a dual unit in same can. Cut bottom off and have an electronics pack in there with another scrubber. Problem would be hose routing. But, It would be an all in one Rebreather and Bail Out Breather. Use a single counter lung and a Joker style DMV. For Bailout only. So, scrubber could be small one with the Big Scrubber in the top. Hammerhead so a lot more room in the can. Might have to be a little longer. But, Sweet set up for long dives. Maybe a spair air can for the O2. DIL plugged in...changing out 5 or 6 O2 sensors would be a pain though... Or, turn the whole thing sideways ala Optima... Tanks underneath.. Slim it down considerably.... I can dream can't I....LOL |
