I see some of you guys mounting your tanks with valves up and some with valves down. Pros, Cons???

Re: Valves Up or Down?

I am about to put valves up on my Meg,dived it on the Pelagian rebreather and loved it...
-like that it feels more natural to reach för valves over head from OC diving...
-the fact that most Rbs are buttheavy because of all the air in breathinghoses and head, is now helped by having the weight of regs and valves high up...no more weights on shoulders or at the top of your machine.
- You can put on any tanks you want....all the way up to 12 liters...can be handy when traveling and small tanks can be hard to find
-You will have shorter hoses from your regs to your bcd,solenoidfeed,O2 man ad,preassure gauges,adv...not a huge benefit but anyway ;-)
Sure I will think of more stuff later..

You are also more likely to hit the valves/regs to something when in caves or wrecks. Not that you would go in such places

Usually that banging happens when you do not know what you are doing, so I guess with proper training and technique one can avoid broken valves.

Re: Valves Up or Down?

Yes it is no problem if you know your s*it. Don`t bumb into anything.

NO valve protectors, they are for strokes

Have you recovered from MidSummer yet? I am still quite tired.

Re: Valves Up or Down?

Valves down for me. Feathering an O2 valve in the upright position is a PITA. I need abit of lead to sink so I may as well position it to trim me out and have a rig that is easier to dive. KISS.

Excellent point about the feathering. Much easier, much easier.
