| meg harness I have resisted removing any d-rings, velcro loops etc from my meg counterlungs until I decide exactly what I want to do with my harness. I first installed a transpac and was immediately overwhelmed with d-ring clutter. I decided to go hog-like with a single webbing and one d-ring on each shoulder. So I went for a tryout dive tonight. After ripping a dry glove trying to put it on in the water and accidently looping my light cable under my crotch strap I am looking for another option. Maybe I need to take a closer look at Leon's house brand harness. Anyone got any pics of a meg harness they really love that I can copy?

| Re: meg harness Dave, I gave away my alum backplate that came with the Meg and am using my existing one piece harness system which I use when teaching OC. I use the Halcyon SS backplate also. I am using the D rings on the CL for attachment points now. Good discussion on http://www.rebreatherworld.com/megal...-have-you.html for other ideas. Welcome to Megville.

Should I be looking for another harness? I decided to continue using my hogarthian style harness/bp for a while longer but may resort back to the transpac. To don the unit where I don't have a convenient tailgate, bench etc I have to lift the unit over my head and let my arms slip though the loops. Not really convenient in a drysuit but I like to give everything a good try before I give up. I have kept my transpac for now. I was hoping for pics of other meg divers rigs but no one seems to be responding. ![]()

D rings and inflation tube are "right there" What I don't like about it is that the CL is attached using the velcro flaps. I buckled harness uses the loops on the back which seems way more secure, especially when using the d-rings attached to the CLs unserside.I don't want to "advise" one way or the other as I am still experimenting myself. I will post my findings here thoughIs a backplate and harness cleaner? Dan

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: meg harness I tried the Hog harness, and once it's dialed in and you got it on your back it's fine. Getting it on is a pita, getting it off can be, too. First switch was to a Dive Rite "Deluxe Harness" that has a quick release on the right shoulder. Not much better donning, to be honest, as it's hard to to use the QR. Great to get out of though after the dive. Am 100% sure yet, but I'll either get the Transpack harness from Dive Rite or the Pro-Fit harness from Deep Sea Supply. Both have QRs, the big difference are the adjustable pull straps. Those are really the feature that eases getting into the harness, and make switching from drysuit to wetsuit infinitely easier. Tobin also has the D-rings that come out sideways from under the counterlungs. I'm leaning towards the Dive Rite though, as the chest straps don't go all the way to the back as on the DSS harness. I like the ability to move them back and forth a bit to find the most comfortable position. Plus the corrugated hose retainers on both sides, on the right it'll be perfect for the KISS valve. Since my CL are in the back I'm not worried about clutter ... with o-t-s lungs the DSS will probably be the ticket. ![]()

| Re: meg harness I find that the one piece webbing gives the least amount of trouble. Not many failure points either. I find that the big trick is to not have it too tight. Most people want to have it so snug that you could use it as a safety harness. Keep it loose and it works great!

| Re: meg harness Leons Standard comfort fit harness hits the spot for me - some piccies in the gallery (not that good though) It has 2 quick release clips which really make getting out much easier and means i can wiggle in with the shoulder straps loose then crank them up tight. Stuart

I bet my bottom dollar that you have the webbing too tight if you are having problem getting it on/off.Getting it on is a pita, getting it off can be, too. Most people when trying the Hog hardness are still thinking like an adjustable system that you synch down - which isn't correct IMHO. Once the waist is loose, it should take less than 1/2 sec to slip one of your arms thru, and either walk forward (if rig is already sitting on something) or rotate your body to slip the other arm out. Getting in is simply slip one arm in, bend down and back into it flipping the webbing over the shoulder (since it is weighted down with D-ring, backup light, etc). You actually don't want tight since a) it is uncomfortable, and b) when you swim hard, the rig doesn't rock back-and-forth too much. Just a matter of getting used to... |
