Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

The fact that no other rebreather manufactuer uses them tells me that regular hoses hold up just fine, therefore, the sole reason to use them would be, as he alluded to, to pimp his ride.

Now, if only I could fit them using factory connectors to my Inspo.

Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

Isn't that the type of hose used on the Ouroboros?

Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

Its on the Boris, on the Rebreather 80,all the newer copies of that machine,I think its on the Cis Lunar to but not sure,Its a simular hose on the classic IDA rebreathers (made to last for ever russian military Rebreather)
Normally its green but I have seen simular in different colours..
If penetrating,the hoses are one of the weakest points so if that can be reiforced Im all for it..

Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

the cooper hoses are smothe bore and resist crushing so the work of breathering is better but it's harder to see a negative by the hoses
they are used on a number of the newer units on the market but have been used for many years on mil spec units.
i would use them if i could afford to have then made:-(
kindest regards joihn routley

Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

Advantages;

- much smoother on the inside (less 'corrugation's) so traps much less water and gurgle significantly less (not a single hose gurgle after 8 hour dive, I'm still amazed at how infrequent I would get a gurgle compared to my other units with standard hoses)

- due to this much easier to clear any water that is trapped

- negative test is in fact very easy. When you suck a vacuum the hose length 'shrinks' gets shorter as the corrugations bunch up. You monitor for re-extension if there is a leak, no more messing around crushing hoses. The re-extension distance (how far the mouthpiece drops down over time) and time it takes is much more accurate/repeatable than crushing as a test.

-I always had and I always see standard hoses kink up on people in use when they turn their heads in certain positions, especially those that shorten their hoses too much - not possible with the cooper hoses they keep their shape in all positions so wob doesn't change

- this and the fact bore size is huge makes for a good WOB

Disadvantages;

- Cost
- Without a hose cover the outside cloth covering snags and can be damaged easily when rubbing against sharp rock or wrecks. This is largely cosmetic, a hose cover would prevent.
-Bouyancy, they are floaty and often are the highest point of the divers profile. Some divers put weights on them to lower them, I dont as I dont find it an issue

Personally the hoses are one of the things I rate on the Boris and one of the things I'm grateful for.

Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

Hi Mike!
Are they "floaty" on your Boris because of the quite long hoses on that very Rebreather or do you think the hose it self is more floaty than a standard rubber hose?

Re: Cooperhoses on Meg

I know that Jonny Bekkestad on this forum has e-mailed the company with no answer....I think a call is in place (why does people in the diveindustry never answer mail?)
If we can get togeather and order a buch of hoses they might be more interested on helping us out?
