| Re: Meg and Shearwater John, I think the question you should be asking is what support you may get from the manufacturer if anything goes wrong. Whilst the unit's warranty will not be transferable, how much would you need to spend to get the unit changed to Apecs in the event of a problem? Personally I would avoid purchasing a Shearwater unit, when they worked they were excellent, but when they didn't then they weren't. Cheers, Dave Cooper.

| Re: Meg and Shearwater With a non transferrable warranty you would have to pay the same amount to get knackered APECS swapped to new APECS as you would to get the Shearwater swapped out if anything went wrong with it! Personally If the Shearwater went wrong then I would be sweet talking Bruce or considering a Hammer Meg (at least till APECS 3 is around) Mind you thats cos I like having integrated deco witha backup computer externally. | Re: Meg and Shearwater On my Meg, I have been diving the new Shearwater along with the three LED HUD for a few months now. I used it all week at Inner Space and made an offer there, so I guess it's public knowledge now. The price for the package including the Shearwater GF, the HUD, and installation is $2,500 US. Any existing Shearwater Meg owners will get a $1,000 discount. The Shearwater GF controls the solenoid with a variable injection algorithm that holds setpoint very accurately. We're not sure exactly what the battery life will be, since no one has ever changed a battery on a Shearwater yet, but I'm expecting hundreds of hours of dive time. The package uses one of the existing Meg batteries to fire the solenoid, so even if the solenoid battery dies, the handset will keep working. There is no need to ever turn off the solenoid battery, since it is disconnected by the Shearwater unless it is firing. I have 2 Saft C cells that I have been using for the last year or so, and I'm expecting a few more years out of those batteries too from what others have told me. The HUD uses three hugh-intensity LEDs with variable brightness. As you get further from 1.0, the LEDs flash more often, and they get brighter. At .2 PPO2, you get three very bright LEDs flashing continuously. Since it uses three LEDs, the time required to read you PPO2 is less than 2 seconds. If all three LEDs don't flash the same number of times, it is immediately apparent. Although we are obviously biased, Lynn and I think this is the coolest thing we've seen on a rebreather in a long time. The package will be warranted by Shearwater, since we now control the whole process. The computer portion has been ready for some time, but we don't have production versions of the HUD case yet. I am planning to start shipments Aug 1. But there are already a couple of people in line, so general shipments will be more like Sept 1. More information on the computer is available at http://www.rebreather.ca
