The HUD is a nice feature. I was a bit worried about the blink, blink, blinking all the time, but it wasn't really a problem. And the count-the-blinks approach worked quite nicely.

Diving was better than I thought it would be. I'd read about buoyancy going out the window and trim all shot to pieces when you move to a Rebreather. I was pleasantly surprised that trim was established pretty easily. Of course, buoyancy was more of a challenge and I'm no expert yet, but I think my expectations were much worse than what actually occurred. In short, the Meg was easier to dive than I anticipated.
Glad to hear you didn't find the buoyancy too elusive. I found my first couple of dives on the Meg very frustrating because I couldn't get the buoyancy right, and I was recalling effortless dives on OC twins and wondering whether I had made a huge mistake. (I hasten to add that it was me and not the Meg that should be blamed for that!) But then it finally clicked on the third dive, wierdly after a day's break out of the water. It was such a relief and a pleasure to finally be diving the unit comfortably!

Hope you enjoy your Meg - I'm sure you will!

I agree with Divechick, i was so frustrated with my training, i could not get the buoyancy right at all, i was a total newbie. My instructor started talking about adding a few days to the course, days i did not have... and then suddenly on my 4th day of diving, like day and night, i had perfect control of myself in the water.

also does anyone know if the sheerwater has a auto set point?--
Current S/W does not have auto set point switch - next version will, I suspect that yours might if not then is only a s/w upgrade.

Although there will be a feature to turn it off.

Reason being is that in can cause a rather large spike in your PPO2 whilst descending fast, much better to manually practise the scamahorn slide...

We had planned to do a wreck penetration dive, and after my severely poor buoyancy effort I was getting comments like "don't worry, you can just swim around the outside" and "no-one's going to make you do anything you are not comfortable with." I was like GRRRRRRRRR

Stick with anodize, if you get a acratch the corrosion will stay localized. The problem with powder coating is the baking process. I've seen 6061 aluminum warb from the heating process. And if you get a scratch in the paint, the corrosion will act like a cancer and expand underneith. A housing can always be re-anodized, re-powder coating is another story.

As for color ... sorry, I'm a basic black kinda guy. There's not too much that's flashy about this diver - except maybe the Meg itself.
Aside from the Shearwater are the APECS electronics still available? Will the Hammerhead Elec work just as well and are their significant differences with the HUD's?

I wouldn't powder coat. Powdercoating isn't bulletproof. If you drop it, it will pop off easily. It's tougher then paint. And resistant to light scratching. But usually if you scratch it. It gouges.

Annodizing is tougher. And, there are other things tougher then both. But if you drop it on the bottom with powder coating. It WILL chip off. The whole bottom would be bare aluminum in short order.

Also, somebody wondered about if Apecs were still available. They now are the only option. Shearwater isn't available anymore. Unless they just recently changed that. Hammerhead isn't available either..
