Mold Training

I purchased a slightly used, but somewhat "unclean" Meg recently. It looks as though the previous owner hadn't let it thoroughly dry before storing as there is a certain amount of mold in the system. It's powdery now and easily wiped off, however I'd like to be sure that it is entirely gone before I take my training in June. I'd thought at first it was powder from the scrubber material, but on closer examination it is clearly mold. It's also apparent on the absorpant pads found in the head at the bottom of the canister. I'd contacted ISC about this and was told to wash the pads in my laundry, which I'll will do.

I guess what I'd like is a detailed explanation of Meg cleaning. I have purchased Virkon tablets, but was recommended povidone by ISC. Any suggestions?

Any other maintenance I should consider before training?

Also anyone else training with Leon in June?

Personally I would use Virkon, its the most effective sanitizing agent available.

Thanks,

All the removable bits (lungs hoses, abosorbent pads, spacer, scrubber ect) I would soak in a 1% solution of virkon for 10-15 minutes, then rinse.. I would remove the sensors(mark them so that they can be installed back correctly) and cover the molex connectors and use a spray bottle with a 4% virkon solution (this is the strongest solution that can be made), let it stand for a few minutes then do a hand wipedown of everything.. any spores should be taken care of by that time.. You can hand wipe the sensors...

If you unhooked the cables or opened the battery pods, I suggest hand wiping them with a dampcloth (dipped in virkon)

For the aluminum can I would use the 1% solution for 10 minutes max (dont leave it in there) then thoroughly rinse with fresh water..

In addition to what Joe has said try finding somebody that works in surgery in a hospital. Maybe they could covertly get it gas sterilized for you. Ethylene oxide will kill all microbes in places you could never get to.
