From the numbers I have been hearing a HamerMeg is less than $1000 more than a standard meg..
Hey Joe

I agree that buying a Hammermeg would probably be cheaper, but I'm just looking for a head.

I'm very happy with SP controllers alone, most of my hours have been on them between the Inspo Classic and My meg but I do like the idea of integrated deco.

I'm always excited when exisiting proven technologies can be combined to make a new tool greater than the sum etc etc.

If I really can't wait till the end of the year I'll p/up a Hammer meg head, but the promise in the APECS 3 is great and i'm just gonna sit here and salivate for a while, while I decide.

Cheers

Seb

With the dates I can see here I will get my Meg before the Apecs 3 is ready

Does anyone know where the smithers electronics fit into this line up of new electronics.

Are you still diving smithers electronics?

James.
If its a truely wet connector then its Probably a Marshall connector.. They make wet connectors with specs from 10k to 20k PSI..

There are some other good connectors with similiar specs but don;t have the "wiping" action that the marshall connectors have..

Re: Apecs

There are quite a few of us still diving with the old Smither electronics. Basically equivalent to the old version of the Hammerhead electronics. Seems like there would have to be substantial improvements before I personally would ever trade up to the v3.x APECS electronics since the Smithers electronics has the decompression software already built in.

The only thing my version doesn't have is the HUD.

I guess that's a pretty good testimony to the smithers durability.

I don't have any info specific to Smithers electronics, but ...

Apecs 3 is a complete reinvention ... all new hardware, software, etc. My understanding (I may have gotten that from someone on this board) is that a new head will be required, but I may be wrong on that. If so, smithers users (like everyone else) would need a new head if they desire to upgrade. I have no idea how pricing will work and I bet ISC doesn't yet either. We are still a ways away from Apecs 3 as you can tell since wish lists are still coming in as someone said above. But the feature set of Apecs 3 will have to be finalized soon as development is well underway.

Apecs 3 will have integrated deco and generally more control over the algorithms since that is a request Leon has heard from a lot of divers. There are a few other features that I'm really looking forward to seeing, but ISC will be announcing those as they see fit.

I wonder how many megs would be out there now if the smithers units hadnt sold. And your right, no one out there to repair them. I dont have as many hours on mune as I should but Luckily it is still going strong.

Re: Apecs

Just treat the handsets nicely. The computers seem pretty well potted, but I still make sure to keep the head in a dry location between dives to avoid the risk of long term moisture build up in the circuits.

I've never had a problem with my unit either. It would be simple enough to repair any wiring issues. Also, I've never checked but always assumed that Kevin Juergensen might be willing to repair or replace the handsets if they ever went belly up since he and Will jointly worked on the originals.
