| RBW Member | Meg cell checker idea I been thinking of using the gray storage plug that came with my meg to check my cells. I have a extra loop and was thinking of taking it apart and using the the pieces that screw the hoses onto the top of the can to hold down those gray storage plugs. In one of the plugs I'd have a pressure gauge and in the other I'd have some means of adding gas to the canister. I tested my idea today but I just held the plugs in place and was able to add enough air to make my cells read .42 which would've been about 13 psi. Anybody have any thought on this idea? Scott |

I only know because I thought about something like that before and Leon said it was a bad ideacheck my cells. I only know because I thought about something like that before and Leon said it was a bad idea Should take all that much O2 to fill just the canister. Do use remember what he was thinking it might damage? If its the plate I was thinking of alternate ways to hold the head on instead the the 4 SS latches for the testing. I only need to pressurized the can to about 12 psi of O2 to check my cells. |

| Re: Meg cell checker idea Come to think of it when I went to ISC for a software upgrade the whole head was put into a pressure pot so the reading could be checked. I'll have to take a closer look at the fittings on top of the head. |

| Customise Me! ![]() | Re: Meg cell checker idea I can see how you could think this might work but it is fraught with danger. The head and latches are not designed to cope with any pressure differential and it would soon bend the latches and blow the head off not to mention the pressure could potentially distort the head and cause any number of other problems. You stand to damage the head and if it would let go it could turn it into a missile too. If you want to check your cells why not get a Narked@90 cell checker or just perform a linearity check at the beginning of your dive. Regards, Lance

| Re: Meg cell checker idea Why not take the sensor carriage with cells still attached and make a trip to your local hardware/plumbing store and see what they have that fits and you can use to DIY. Not quite as easy as using the whole head but its not too difficult or PIA to take off the molex connectors and remove the sensor carriage to do the testing. John |

I also check my cells for linearity at the beginning and end of every dive, it never hurts to be a bit more cautious. After all cells are the Achilles heal of rebreathers. I've been thinking of ways to hold down the head other then the latches. The head and latches are not designed to cope with any pressure differential and it would soon bend the latches and blow the head off not to mention the pressure could potentially distort the head and cause any number of other problems.
