![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | One piece Meg O2 cal plug Well, it’s winter here and the water got hard, so no diving. My Meg is sits in the basement with nowhere to go, looking just as bored as I feel. The lathe beckoned…….. What you see is a one piece Meg O2 calibration device. Idea was to eliminate the second bit of the Meg cal kit and to use the absolute least amount of O2 possible for calibration. How it works: The plug extends about ˝ inch beyond the chamber where the sensors “see” the loop gas. Its diameter is about 0.022 inch less than the gas passage at that point, allowing supplied O2 to leak freely enough to not build up pressure that would screw up the cal, but tight enough to prevent backflow of ambient air. To use, Meg electronics are turned on and the cal option is selected. Ambient air part of cal is done normally. Plug is now inserted as shown and O2 is supplied to plug at a low rate. When you’re happy w/ readings, confirm your O2 cal. Flow rates: I use a medical O2 reg and bottle. I first flush for a few seconds w/ 15 lpm, then turn the flow down to the reg’s lowest setting, 2 lpm. I’m at 900 ft elevation. At 15 lpm #1 sensor stabilized at 51.4 MV. This dropped to 51.0 MV at 10 lpm. The 51.0 MV was unchanged at 6 lpm, 4 lpm and 2 lpm, indicating essentially no back pressure = good to go on the O2 calibration. I eventually plan to make up a small flow restrictor that hooks up to the manual O2 bypass hose w/ a BC-type connector that flows about 1 to 2 lpm for use in the field when no medical reg/bottle is handy. All you shop wise Meg divers feel free to copy. Ken ![]() ![]() Last edited by Louby Lou : 12th February 2006 at 16:15. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: One piece Meg O2 cal plug Nice work. I'm wondering if there's scope to simplify your design further. Just a suggestion. Why not simply cut your plastic cylinder just below the level of the O2 vent holes to more accurately simulate what really occurs (i.e. gas flowing up into the sensor chamber without actually being directed to the sensor faces as done by the vent holes). Although you may not get 100% O2 getting blown on the sensor faces, you do get the effect (i.e. in mv) of 100% O2 gas circulating in that part of the loop. I'm considering your invite to copy your idea. Thanks. Gilles |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: One piece Meg O2 cal plug Ken I'm looking forward to using the meg cal plug with the bcd connector on the March Truk Lagoon trip as there are several Meg divers in the group, should make cal easy. Your Avatar looks like you need to either brush off the snow, or go diving...tsk, tsk, tsk...such a nice dive mobile and collecting snow! DT |
