| Customise Me! | Re: Anyone using a BOV from JJ-CCR.com Anyone diving a BOV from JJ-CCR.com: I tested one in July, including machine testing and some manned test dives. It is one of the best BOVs we have seen: nice low work of breathing (1.1J/L at 40msw, 75lpm RMV in CCR mode) - much lower than the native Inspo mouthpiece we have here. The overall functionality was good too, and it was well made. JJ-CCR genuinely have a nice valve, albeit in the Inspo/Evo style.JJ-CCR - Other Rebreathers Like it hate it, easy to use, not easy to use, compact when compared to other BOV's or not. Thanks in advance for your assistance Tony Flaris I sent Dave Thompson the detailed test results from the machine testing, which he may or may not choose to post, but they are pretty good. Our manned test of BOVs involves putting them on a rebreather, do a few deepish dives without any other means of putting gas in the loop (no manual inject, no ADV/ALV), and video it to provide us with some winter entertainment. That soon sorts out whether the valve has any serious ergonomic issues or not. The JJ-CCR valve passed. Some others simply produced an amusing video of a rapidly disappearing test diver, and of support divers trying to decide whether the test diver wants them to intervene or not ![]() It is not a very popular test with test divers, because the pass rate is quite low. The JJ-CCR BOV completed about 5 hours of dives set up this way, with lots of changes in profile, at which point we concluded it did not have any major vices so took it off and put the O.R. mouthpiece back on. I said to Dave at the time it should be fitted by every Inspo or Evolution diver in my opinion. We plan to test the Open Circuit performance of his valve sometime, but it felt pretty good. Our chambers have a big backlog, due to us being busy and also they had to be relocated to a container just outside the building during the summer - the Factory Inspector was getting more and more agitated seeing all the O2 and heavy facilities on the 5th floor of an office block. Just after the relocation we managed to damage a breathing machine in a rather exciting test - now repaired - so we will do this in a month or two. Like all BOVs, exhale before you inhale, otherwise you will likely get a mouthful of muck, and look up while you exhale to ensure the exhaust is the lowest part of the valve. Alex NB: We run tests on items from other companies frequently, so we understand better how our own work compares and how the different design decisions they have made influence their actual performance. These tests were not paid for by Dave or JJ-CCR, so it is a true independent test. Dave was not present for the tests, so could not influence them in any way. Dave sent us the valve on loan to us for testing. Last edited by AD_ward9 : 15th October 2008 at 14:17. |
