Re: First stages

Heather, et al,

I have now put Apeks FST first stages in my Expedition Inspo, and use them on my bailout tins, with TX-100 second stages. They are just fabulous easy breathers, especially for going deep.

I have been told that too. Unless I saw it in writing, from SP, I wouldn't buy it. Further, I'd still O2 clean my own- remember that little story I told y'all about a valve?
That little story is BURNED into my brain. Pun intended. Thanks for sharing it way back then. I saw another aftermath of an 02 fire 2 yrs ago. It was not pretty. Haskel was burned/melted. I saw yet another Haskel also burned and melted. Attention getters to say the least. If I've run across two and knowledge of another it makes one think: How common is it?

I have had all kinds of nightmares of one of these burning...

Any thoughts or experience you have with the unit would be appricated.

Yep. I've been doing it for years and have never had even a hint of a problem. I am also pretty anal about O2 cleaning before use.

Re: First stages

Scubapro Mk2+ come with Teflon seat which is "as I understand it" not an issue when it comes to O2 compatibility.

Re: First stages

Jetsam are using the Zeagle DS-V on the Kiss units for a number of countries including Australia.
They are a very nice mid range and priced FS. They also use the same size blanking plug on the O2 side as the Apeks DS-IV

Cheers
Chris

Re: First stages

Are the Apeks and Zeagle first stages the same thing?

The Zeagle DS-V and Apeks DS-IV are similar, Zeagle have changed the HP seat to a new material and done a bit of internal work to improve the flow rate, but overall you would be hard pressed to tell them apart.

This is the only Reg that Zeagle have not completely redesigned from when they took the Regs in house in 2000.

Cheers

Re: First stages

ScubaPro MK25's

Or Apeks DS4's.

Depending on my mood....

ScubaPro's hoses are nicer. I trust Apeks a lot though

Re: First stages

I see. I asked because all the KISS divers I know (including myself) have Apeks regs on their units so I guessed they had to be either very similar or the same if that's what they're using down there.

I believe Jetsam where at one point having some trouble sourcing Apeks, they could not get them in Canada in the volumes they needed. When Kim and Gordon where in Australia I ran them through the Zeagle First Stages, they then started using the Zeagle DS-V on the Sport Kiss, Every SK imported to Australia has Zeagle DS-V's on it, not sure if they are doing the same for the US now.

Cheers
Chris
