Tank Mounts for a Meg

What's everyone opinion on tank mounts for the Meg?

Leaning towards Shadow Mounts my thoughts light than Tiger Mounts.

What's yours?

Re: Tank Mounts for a Meg

T,

I've used the Tiger mounts for drysuit inflation when diving OC, but I've never used them on my Meg. I went with a relatively unknown set of mounts from Northern Diver. Northern Diver Pony Mounts. I like them, a lot. There's no pin/wire and they don't make any noise at all. None, period. And they are very thin, but longer, so they provide a large mount to base mounting surface, making them sturdy and stable. IMO they are a quality engineered product. They're made entirely from 2 mating pieces of machined aluminum, except for the springs, spring cleats and latch button, (which are stainless), so they're light.

I use Shadows.... very low profile, lightweight, only real complaints, they move on the bands if forced and you need to lube the pin occasionally w/ drysuit zipper wax or christolube every other week or so to keep them moving smooth.

Re: Tank Mounts for a Meg

I owned a MEG, so...

...It depends on what you are going to be doing: Are you going to be mounting one set of tanks, or are you going to be switching out many tanks and many different sized tanks? If the latter, then take a look at the MetalSub. They are expensive, but work like a charm.

Golem is selling the "male" part (that would connect to the female, mounted on your canister), but there are other Rebreather World readers who can supply the complete assembly for you. You might also contact Juergensen Marine to see if they will sell you a complete set, as they are standard equipment on the Hammerhead CCR.

If interested, take a look at the HH Forum, as there is a thread there on mounts.

Regards,

Bill

Whats wrong with good old fashion webbing cam bands?

Cheap, nothing needed on the tank, does not take alot longer to mount a tank, provides flexility to use any tank at a moments notice....this is a necessity if you plan to do any amount of travel.

Exactly! That’s why I built my own. Use screw clamps to can & cam bands for tanks. Have used everything from 13 cf to 45 cf cylinders with ‘em and narry a hiccup. Kevlar/ carbon fiber. Piece of cake to build.

I actually like your carbon fiber mounts. Its not a project that I have any knowledge to pursue so I ran down to the local hardware store and purchased a piece of AL molding used to transition from one room with carpet to another. It cost about $5 and I cut it to cannister length with a hacksaw and used hose clamps to hold it and the webbing tank cam bands to the scrubber cannister.

Re: Tank Mounts for a Meg

I use the Patco Inc pony mounts and they work great. Very easy to swap bottles in and out.I had to get some blank undrilled male sections from them and sweet talked a friend into drilling holes into them to make them left/right handed (as they only come in one orientation). It was worth the effort.I use shadow mounts for mounting my suit inflation bottle, but contemplating changing this to the Patco mounts as well.

Re: Tank Mounts for a Meg

I went out online to take a look at the Metal-sub mounts that Bill referred to. Intersetingly enough they appear to be exactly the same as the Northern Diver mounts, right down to the rubber gasket material that's used on the hose clamps.

Thanks for the info on Golem selling the male part separately Bill.
