| God save the Queen Current Rebreather/s: | Meg Counter lungs Neoprene vs Nylon Looking to purchase a replacement set of lungs for a Meg. I would mainly use the unit for Cave Diving and some boat diving. What would be your recommendation for counter lung type to use. I am only 5'7" 150lbs currently diving an Evo and in the process of purchasing a used Meg. For those of you who have used the neoprene what are the advantages For those using the nylon what are the advantages. Are there different size counter lungs for the Meg? Thanks for your input.

| Re: Meg Counter lungs Neoprene vs Nylon The Nylon counter lungs are one size fits all. Some (Meg Owners) have stitched the insides a bit to reduce the volume down. I use mine without the stitching and I'm 5' 9" and weight about 160Ibs and don't mind the size. I know leon makes the neoprene ones which can be sized a bit smaller for you. Tried building a set for a friend and they leaked like crazy. Neoprene are easy to patch but I think the nylon onces are more durable. Lorne |

They are approaching something like 200 hours on them. I put a couple of pin holes in one lung about a year ago. Very easy to patch. The neo lungs are not as bulky as the nylon and I really appreciate this. For all that is said about the neoprene lungs being more fragile, I am even surprised as to how much my set are holding up. Aside from some pilling on the side that contacts the dry suit/wet suit, they look new. If I had to decide again today, I would get another set of neoprene lungs.

Unfortunately they were just too big for me as they are much longer than my harness straps. The Cordura ones are only a few inches shorter but have a few more attatchment points to hold them in place. I now use the Cordura ones and find that I have no issues with (much more comfortable for to dive with). If I was a larger build then I'd use the neoprene ones as I have no reservations about their durability and prefer the lower profile but as it is I'll stick with the Cordura ones (stitched down one side). |

The CL's are very lightly used and are for sale: http://www.rebreatherworld.com/rebre...tml#post188457 Sale excludes the ADV which is not included when you order CL's from ISC (so I'm now using it on my Cordura ones). |

| Re: Meg Counter lungs Neoprene vs Nylon I considered the neoprene counter lungs but also heard they are prone to pin holes and require periodic patching. I was also leery of the offgassing of neoprine into the loop, but don't have any data to back that up, just a general aversion to weird fumes. I've got about a hundred hours on the nylon/cordora ones and have had no problems. g

| Re: Meg Counter lungs Neoprene vs Nylon I'm 5'10" I'm 5'9". I used to think the same as you but since I moved them higher up, they fit me perfectly. I now put the side-release buckles at the back of the BP and attached the CLs there in such a manner as the 1" webbing strap goes over the BP. It puts the T-pieces higher up on my shoulders wich in return makes the loop more comfortable as the BOV comes naturally in my mouth and floats just in front of it when removed.Best Philippe |

It's not my height but my build - trust me it's not a case of moving them higher up ![]() Jerry from ISC looked over me in my rig and confirmed that they need to be shorter for me. I want to get some custom ones made as part of a bigger project but the Cordura ones work well for now. |
