Tank Valves

I am looking for DIN O2 and dil tank valves (preferably for the Meg setup). Beginning my Xmas shopping list.

Are there any suggestions.

Re: Tank Valves

Any Modular valve set up will work, the smaller the better.

I am guessing in the uk most people tend to use MDE valves not sure if they are available to dot/ctc specs.

That depends. Some folks like longer valves that are easier to reach with gloved hands...especially helpful in chilly places like Canada. I've seen Genesis tank valves being used.

I use the Thermo's, but have found with the G-snaps they come very close to the canister unless you angle them some. they have a hex head nut on them (plug, as they are for a manifold, L & R), So I got the local Machine shop to take the head off and keep it flush, then I had them machine a slot in them for a screw driver.
I think there is another one who already has it like I did to mine? Not sure who's?

Good Luck

Do you know if they come in a left hand valve also?

Re: Tank Valves

yes they do come in a left hand valve there web site is www.midlanddiving.com drop them an email and see if they can help.

you can retrofit the sherwood large ruber handles direct onto the valve meaning they are easy to grip in mits in the middle of winter,

Re: Tank Valves

These MDE valves are just about the nicest that I've used. I've got them on my stages. I can turn then on and off by rolling my finger over the knob (I have Sherwood rubber knobs fitted).

Cheers

Rich

Hi-

The valves are, more specifically, called Thermo Pro valves, to distinguish them from Thermo’s regular right hand valves. They are available in both left hand and right hand versions and are essentially the outer portions of a doubles tank manifold w/ the previously mentioned hex plugs. They are also the valves currently being supplied in the USA w/ new Megs when purchased w/ the 19 CF aluminum cylinders. They don’t clear the can by a lot, but they DO clear. The ones I’ve bought come factory sealed in a bag w/ a tag claiming they are precleaned for nitrox service. They also generally cost less than OMS valves, another quality valve that will work.

The can clearance point becomes moot if you angle the cylinder valves 45 degrees forward when mounting the tanks to the can. The angling accomplishes two things. First, it gives the regulator first stage a bit more room to live in and gets the hose bundle predisposed to stay close to the can while moving upward. Second and most importantly, it gets the valve knobs just a bit more forward so that they can be reached more easily when in a heavy neoprene dry suit that restricts mobility. I found during training that in the pool w/ just a skin on I could reach the valves no matter how my tanks were oriented or mounted. However, when fully kitted up for the 4 degree C open water portion of the training w/ stages, reels, bags, canisters, ad nausium, I found that the 45 degree trick was the only way for me to be reliably reach the valves during all portions of the dive- and I’ve got the arms of an orangutan (some would say the face and brain as well….).

Hope this helps,
Ken

Greetings. The Thermo Pro Valve only comes in one handle model. (divers right) The Thermo Modular Series comes Left and Right and come Pro style with inserts for K-valves or 300 bar din outlet. They are clean for nitrox (oxygen) service at manufacture assembly. It's a very nice valve. They fit nicely on the Meg and the Oroborous and other unit. You may need to rotate the cylinder slightly if you have a tight fit. We stock all the Thermo valves and parts.

Regards,
