2004 Movie Meg vs Current

Are there any significant differences (upgraded or changed components) or issues (known problems or things to look out for) between a 2004/5 vintage Movie Meg and a current standard Meg aside from the 2 inch shorter scrubber canister?

What are the advantages or disadvantages with the shorter canister?

I have already read all the threads but these two questions are not clear to me.

Thanks, John

Mempilot has a movie meg.., the solenoid is the older watmeiser vs. jaksa, and the head had a water trap/tube of some sort....

Cheers

luxrok is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: 2004 Movie Meg vs Current

I can think of two changes:

1. Software will be different. The newest software uses a depth based algorithm to switch between a high and low P02.

2. The battery boxes are different. The battery boxes now come with a circuit that protects the head against reversed polarity batteries.

I am sure there are other changes.

Yeah, they call it the Patrick curcuit. I think you know who it's named after too.

Any 'nondestructive' way to find out if you have this mod...?

You had to start it did'nt you..... you just can't stop yourself from teasing the animals.

I was hoping that he would not see this thread so I would not have to face any payback.

Open battery box and look for small rectangular (postage stamp sized) board between reed switch and battery.

Hi John

I dive a movie meg, but with 2.01k hardware and software ( i sold my standard can and bought a movie can), so I can't give you any feedback on the electronics. However, I can give you the ups and downs of the physical size of the can:

Advantages:
  • More compact
  • Less boyant unit because of the smaller loop volume
  • Better setpoint control (in theory, since the loop volume is smaller, faster reaction).
Disadvanteges
  • Harder to don when the Rebreather is standing on a table e.g because of the hight of the unit
  • Smaller watertrap
Hope it helps...

/Christian
