which brand? any info from others on the subject will be seriously appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: AI cells in the Meg

Personally I will soon be changing my AIs (on my rEvo) to Teledynes, I have just seen too many crap AIs out there.

Moray, my advice, put Teledynes in there.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Re: AI cells in the Meg

3 new AI's in my Meg in April 07.

2 bad AI's replaced in Jan 08.

1 of those went bad in Feb 08.

The AI's that failed in my unit showed slow acceptable decay in mV, but then just took a crap all of a sudden. One started very strong and died in 4 dives.

I'm thinking about switching to Tele's.

I used Teledyne cells only so far in my Kiss'ed Azimuth, my CK and my Meg. What you described also happened to me with Tele cells. Once in a while there's a bad batch. But it's true that lately AIs had a rather large bad batch. I'm using one AI on my Meg right now along with 2 Tele's precisely because one Tele became slow and limited to 37mV in O2 from one dive to the next (afternoon and next day morning) and my HH won't calibrate. I had 3 spare AI's in the box so I put what I had on hand. It's true that I can see that this AI is a bit slower than the 2 Tele's to react but so far it's not mV limited.
But that comes from a rather limited experience of a few hours only with AI cells.
Best
Philippe

Re: AI cells in the Meg

I toss the cells when they are consistently slow during calibration. I also toss them when they won't go above 40 mV. This one cell listed above was reading just shy of 60 mV for 4 dives and then dropped to 38.x during the next calibration. I switched the cell around to make sure it wasn't a wire problem, and the cell read the same mV no matter which spot it was in.

Because of this cell behavior, I now calibrate at the beginning of every day (usually one to two dives in a day). I used to only calibrate once every few days of diving, but after seeing this cell go from strong to bad in one dive, I consider this an unneccessary risk. I'd rather not have to call too many dives or start peeling the head off the unit onboard a boat due to a bad cell noticed on the prebreathe sequence. I'd rather catch it in the calibration sequence. I know some are doing humid calibrations after a dive. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with that either due to this reason. Granted, the cell will get voted out during a prebreath, but I'd rather know ahead of time.

Re: AI cells in the Meg

Sadly, all cells are. Hopefully they have been improving...Doesn't really matter what unit they are in.

Otherwise, as below...
