Failure to take adequate precautions may well kill you.

Hi Steve,![]() If you don't know what a cap of this capacity is capable of please learn before tinkering. Failure to take adequate precautions may well kill you. I understand your concerns, and you are correct, under the right conditions capacitors can be very dangerous and are capable of delivering a very painful if not lethal shock. But in this application- the caps are rated at 20/24 VDC and powered by a 12 VDC power supply. You can literally hold the bare electrodes and not feel a thing while the caps are being discharged. Not that I recommend trying it! Parker Last edited by Parker : 1st March 2008 at 08:58. |

Cap Discharge Spot Welder - a photoset on Flickr I'll work on a jig to ease assembly tomorrow and get Padipro to cut me some plywood, then it'll get mounted in the toolbox...! Anyone in Florida need battery packs....? -Tim |

Forgot to mention the downside- it’s easy to get carried away and end up with more Meg battery packs than you can use in a lifetime! ![]() I sent out a few of the Lithium AA battery packs for folks to test- hopefully we will see some feedback soon, unless they last for a long time- then it might be a while… ![]() You might try gluing the batteries together first, before welding on the nickel strips. I use a hot glue gun- not too much tho! This helps keep everything straight and even. It also makes installing the shrink wrap at the end a breeze. Glad the project worked out for you! ![]() Parker |
