| Dema Hi folks! I couldn't get on time to Sin City Question for the DEMA participants - any news from the Meg hatchery specially regarding new scrubber and Apecs 3 ? Appreciate any new input on this subject. I am in the final faze of choosing which Rebreather to buy (leanning toward Meg). Extraordinary site - very helpful. rgrds rzep |

| I talked with Steve S. at Dema and it is definitely a time situation, with the busy production of building units it is finding the time for Steve to develop the new version 3 Apex. Although Steve would not let me pin him down on a time frame, he said it would not be soon. I know of at least one diver using the new concept radial scrubber based on the Cis design, but without the membrane and reports are good. The water tolerant membrane is still in the works. The radial scrubber that ISC displayed at Dema has what I would consider a significant improvement in concept for filling the scrubber. Whenever I dove with a Cis diver, I could never appreciate the quality of the scrubber design as it appeared more of a "pain in the -ss" to fill properly than I would endure for extended time. Although the personal vibrators use to pack the scrubber would be handy at times. The new radial scrubber has work to be done on the end cap, which is a design change that makes filling the scrubber a lot easier, eliminates the broken plastic screws, and other... however the design still has some changes before it will be ready. The hydrophobic membrane issue is fine, and if it were available - ok, but the Meg is not designed to drive water out of the canister so the issue is operating the rebreather with a serious flood. The Meg is hard to flood, not impossible but very tolerant of water entering the hose. Almost all water is diverted into the exhale counterlung if you have loose lips, etc. If a serious flood entered the canister, by staying in a seahorse attitude you can keep water at the bottom of the can and bail out on the rebreather by peculating gas without un-due stress. |
