| Re: Megalodon and hammerhead elektronics There are quite a few people on this list that are happily diving Hammermegs. I would expect that you will see a couple posts from them shortly. |

| Re: Megalodon and hammerhead elektronics Michael: I assume that you've been on the HH website and reviewed all of the neat functions the HH electronics provide. The Optima comes with them out of the box, as does the new HH CCR. Lots of people have upgraded other CCRs with them, as well, so most bugs seem to be worked out. Access to Kevin is immediate whether using your phone or email. I've even had a discussion with him on the weekend, when his shop was closed. They do all that is advertised, and the newer handsets are easy to work with, including changing batteries. Wrist attachment strap technology hasn't kept pace with the evolution of the electronics, IMO. Also, I have a newer Meg head and they couldn't install the HH DIVA (which has a great vibrating feature in addition to the flashing light feature)(I think it would be a great backup safety device when in a total siltout condition - cave or wreck). So, I'm running the Meg HUD. So far I don't believe the DIVA has been fitted to the new Meg head. Even so, the Meg HUD is very good and easy to see/read, as you know. Decompression software is awesome, whether you are using Helium or not. The unit computs your actual PO2, your actual depth, your actual time, and the diluent you have programmed. You can easily set many variables, even during the dive. You can get the decompression software on both handsets, as well. I think my upgrade was between $3,000 and $3,500. I think they are good value, am happy with them, and don't want to imagine diving CCR without them.Bill |

| Re: Megalodon and hammerhead elektronics Sorry I left this out of my earlier post, but even with the great decompression software the HH electronics offer, I still carry backup tables for both Rebreather and OC in my drysuit leg pocket, attached to a slate with a UWATEC depth/timer on it. Bill |

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Megalodon and hammerhead elektronics To quote an old but valid truism: If it 'aint broke, don't fix it. Why change a perfectly good head, which with the new 2.5 version has proved to be reliable, robust and excellent at keeping an accurate set-point with an alternative, and in the process lose the second handset / electronic redundancy of the standard unit? If it's just the on-boards decompression, then either buy a Meg 2.5 now (without deco) and buy the Apecs 3 when its finally released and you'll then have the original head as a backup. As far as the electronics is concerened, there's a simplified overview at Megalodon Rebreather Training Frequently Asked Questions Diesel. |

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Megalodon and hammerhead elektronics I forgot to mention that if you want to link a VR3 to the Meg, then there are ways of installing a fourth O2 cell, to Meg, Inspo, Kiss etc, into the head or via a modified Draeger P fitting into a counterlung. I personally dont have my Meg modded and my VR3 is unconected, but either way if I did I'd rather have it in a way that removes the need for mechnical changes to the unit (driling / cutting etc), with a plug & go fitting that can be quicky removed and serviced. John from Narkedat90 has both counterlung and head mods for fitting a fourth cell and the head option looks very tidy. BTW, I've no commercial interest in Narkedat90 other than as a previous satisfied customer. |

| Re: Megalodon and hammerhead elektronics I had my Meg upgraded to the Hammerhead electronics just prior to Christmas. I went for a week vacation 2 weeks ago and had a chance to see how the new system behaved. I was very peased with the new controllers. I have deco on both the primary and secondary. The automatic solenoid firing system impressed me, it kept the set point right on. One of the major plus in my book, was that I did not have to remove the head to turn on the system ,and was able to assemble, do the predive checks prior to arriving to the boat. Just turn on the unit when I was ready to don the unit for the dive. It is counterproductive to list all the features as there are quite a few, and so far I am glad to have done this change. It is a matter of personnal choice as to which is better than the other, it all depends on your wishes and needs. I am prejudice since I have allready made the change, and I am glad I have done so. ![]() |
