| Closed Circuit Divers Aus Current Rebreather/s: | Shoulder Weighting the Meg I have been working on lightening the Meg to make it easier to transport OS and have settled on a Golem light weight SS backplate and Dive Rite TransPlate harness. It has reduced the weight very dramatically from the DR SS backplate and Deluxe Harness. I am still slightly negatively buoyant with my wetsuit but I am now very butt heavy or shoulder light. To compensate this I have attached a couple of weight pockets to the top of the tanks with a couple of hose clamps. It seems to work well and is the best option I have tried so far. The other has been attaching weights to the top of the harness under the CLs. What I'd like to know is what you have been using and found to be the best way of adding weight to the top of the Meg? I am open to suggestions and keen to hear what you have been using. Thanks, Lance

![]() ![]() | Re: Shoulder Weighting the Meg Hey Lance. I have bolted two solid weights directly to the backplate between the plate and the wings. I was able to mount them high enough, and uncluttered the harness. Whenever I travel I just bring along the mounting bolts and borrow the necessary weight. Gabe ![]() |

| Rebreather World Writer ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Shoulder Weighting the Meg yo I am using hose clamps to attach them weights on top of my inverted tanks and depending of fresh or salt water as well as choice of thermal protection I may change the weights. When traveling I just take the hose clamps with me and borrow some weights. Works well. In sidemount cave diving I attach weights directly to the shoulder harness. Just be carefull when you put the unit on or play around with it to make sure you don't knock yourself out cold ... greetings Matt |

One individual put ankle weights attached to the shoulder D-rings and had them placed inside the pockets behind the CLs. This got into such a position as to prevent the ADV from bottoming out and was even making it difficult to manually operate it. He was a student in training and reacted to the reduced CL volume by shallow breathing which resulted in a mild CO2 hit. Those of us who choose not to use a BOV rely heavily on the ADVs ability to deliver lots of gas when needed.

![]() ![]() | Re: Shoulder Weighting the Meg Look in the store. They carry SS handles that you swap out with the standard delrin handle. The way I solved my feet dropping from down when I stop swimming horizontal, was to switch fins. I was using jet fins at first which are negative. I thought, if I can find a pair of fins that kick and maneuver just as good but are neutral in the water it should solve the problem. I now use the DR fin, swims the same as my jets without the weight. Well that's the way I solved my problem, when I stop I'm still in the exact position. ![]() | Re: Shoulder Weighting the Meg I just attached weights to the tanks. Currently Im using 2 lbs on each tank. I would like to just have a 4lb handle (hint to Monkey) and stop using these weights. My buddy attached weights to his harness (behind his CL) but complains of back pain. I think this is because he needs to solve the CG issue on the MEG its self and not on his body. DSCN1145.JPG DSCN1147.JPG Last edited by scuba_phil : 6th January 2008 at 18:38. |
