Calibrating the night before?

Having done the crossover course from the Inspo, I still have lots of questions without a manual.

Is it was possible to calibrate the unit the night before the dive?

If both primary and secondary are set to power save and the hud is disabled, would there be any drain on the batteries?

Re: Calibrating the night before?

Huh ?? You don't have to leave it on after a Cal. Its no Ybod

I pretty much always Cal the Meg the night before, actually its 9:30pm and I just finished doing a Predive including Cal for a 10am splash tomorrow.
Usually our dives involve very early starts, thanks Luke Last thing I would want to be doing is a Pre Dive at 5am in the morning.

Just Prep the Meg as per the checklist including Calibration then turn it off.

10 mins before getting in the water open the can turn it on, close it up do a positive and negative then go for the dive. Can't say I have ever had a cell drift overnight, usually spot on for weeks at a time.

Cheers
Chriso

Re: Calibrating the night before?

The answer is Yes to both question. If you are using Apecs Electronics there is a power drain whenever the units are left on whether asleep or not. To save on the batteries you should turn them both off and just turn them back on prior to diving. I always calibrate the day before diving and then check if I still have proper reading when I turn the units back on prior to diving and if they are too far off then I would recalibrate, but so far it has not happened.
As far as drain on the batteries, I have had a couple of senior moments and left the power on for a couple of days after cleaning the unit and playing with the controllers just to find out that I spent the batteries because even though they units are on the sleep mode they do still drain power.

By too far off do you mean the O2% reading on the handsets?

Ditto on that question....

This is not a ding on you personally but it exactly goes to the importance of good cross over training....

Best of luck!

Mark

Re: Calibrating the night before?

Yes I do mean the reading on the handsets. After calibration it will read 20.9 on air. The next morning it should read the same as when you calibrated and to be .1 off either way would not warrantee recalibrating unless you feel compelled to do so. My view is if it does show greater than .1 off I would then recalibrate.

Sorry for being unclear I meant it to be .001, as far as error differential. I use the ballpark of .211 - .208 therefore above .212 or below .207 I would recalibrate.

.1 is a HUGE error.. .3 when it should be .21 would not be acceptable..

.20-.23 would be in the ballpark.. but since the meg uses a 2pt cal and one is air.. I would really be looking for as close to a .21 as possible
