![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: From Shadow mounts to Metalsub Thanks. That would be great. Was this something you had made, or off the shelf? Goodmorning all, steve, initially i saw this exact set up from Cedric Verdier, when i was doing a few dives with him, and at the time i had the tiger gear. Since i was after the shadow mounts, just to get the slimmer profile, but i then realised that i would only be able to mount the tanks that had already been set from before. that would need a bit of time, and then i thought of going with Cedric's idea. i called him up and he very happily gave me the stats, which it turned out great. honestly, i would not change it for anything now. i have even tried it with 2 S80s on and it holds it fine. no problems with that. i only thought that Cedric had is like that just because he was travelling a lot, and then he used to use any tank he found in front of him... and also to avoid weight, but i realised this is not the main factor. main factor is simplicity!hope it helps. i shall take a few photos today this afternoon and post here. you can see i cut a few small pieces of a bicycle inner tube to hold the excess of velcro strap that is left hanging around if i use the 3 litre tanks, but when i use the S80s, then the measurrement is exact. i dont think i'll ever need to use larger tank than the S80. Thanks. hope this clarification helps to clear our as to why i find it best. Spyros

![]() ![]() | Re: From Shadow mounts to Metalsub Thanks for taking the time to go over this Spyros. I like the simplicity of this method of tank mounting. I'm looking forward to your next set of photos. Hopefully they'll provide more information on the alumimum piece holding the cam straps to the scrubber body. Cheers. Bob |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: From Shadow mounts to Metalsub It is a simple piece of flat object pinning the tank cam bands against the scrubber by the jubilee clips. Would it work with a few small SS rods instead of the sheet as well? Seems the rods would provide a smoother surface for the cam band to wind around and a bit of a groove for the tank to sit it.Thoughts? -p |

Seems the rods would provide a smoother surface for the cam band to wind around and a bit of a groove for the tank to sit it. Thoughts? -p hello all, i dont know what you mean by small SS rods, but i can only speak for this system as it works for me. it was a piece of aluminium, which i covered with black tape because i wanted it to be black , and i stuck it in there and secured it with the clips.i had 4 velcro straps. i chose to put 4, i thought it would be best. if i have the 3 litre, i think is the closest they could get to the can, and having the valves upright, makes me carry the meg by grabing it from both valves...(from each tank) anyway, here a few more pictures which i took today in the sun hoping you could get a clearer picture. i trully believe that you'll throw all shadow mounts, and tiger gear after this. in fact, i have 2 sets of shadow mounts, with another 2 male parts, and never used underwater, or probably used once. i am selling those if anyone is interested. Also, i put 2 zeagle weight pockets i had found in my shed which i had been using in the past, and therefore, i have a place to add weight accordingly if i want to. when i am not diving, they serve as a place to keep the meg handsets while carring it here and there.... HPIM0003.jpg HPIM0004.jpg HPIM0005.jpg the back plate you are seeing in these photos is not the one i use right now, but i plan to start using but my problem is that the screws are too far out, and the butterfly screw need to be changed or i need to find shorter ones, and low surface screws. i believe that way, i am eliminating my weight for travelling a lot more. here are the pics so you realise what i am talking about. if by any chance you have an idea, then let me know please... HPIM0001.jpg HPIM0002.jpg i am traveling to Lebanon for the Victoria dive in April and this is the first time i am travelling with my meg, so never thought of eliminating excess weight before... Thanks guys for finding this setup interesting. it makes me sure that i did not make the wrong move. Well, the credit goes to Cedric, cause i saw it off him... i wait for your comments. Thanks, and Happy new year all. Spyros

Thanks! glad you like the set up. i am sure you' ll be more enthousiastic once you actually set it and put the tanks up... regarding the butterfly nuts, you are right. i just remember seeing somewhere a while ago, some very big but thin in width screws, that were perfect for this. maybe cut a bit the inside screw from the STA but that is ok... Paul, i can't wait to hear your views once you try it... Spyros

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: From Shadow mounts to Metalsub Using a wide piece of alum, as you are, might help with attaching smaller diameter tanks. With my Faber steel 19s/3Ls, which only have a 3.9 inch/9.9 cm diameter, I find that both my Scubapro and DiveRite cam cleats just don't work - they are designed to work with larger diameter tanks. It appears that most cam cleats I can find on the internet are set up for 5.5" min diameter tanks. Adding length to the straps, by using a broader canister attachment strip, as you have, might just be the trick I need to attach my smaller tanks. BTW, what type of cam cleats/buckles are you using?
