Angry Lights Out

Arrived at the bottom of an insane cool sinkhole in the middle of a lake here in Mexico. The bottome of the lake (6m) has a gigantic hole (30m diameter at least) which dropes all the way to 80m passing a hydrogen sulfide layer and two haloclines...swimming around on the bottome when I realize LIGHTS OUT and no not my 10w HID but I'm talking about my HUD!

Check secondary Handset and see it's dead too...Abort the dive and make my way up...thinking about a dead battery pack...

At home interchanged the batteries between primary and secondary and primary works but secondary still dead...FANTASTIC...Just got my head back 5 months ago from electronic failure...and it's not like it's easy to get stuff out of mexico and back in...

So AGAIN I have to live without my MEG and am looking fwd to the next BILL!!!

Thanks god I love side mounting too...

Saludos,
Patrick

Re: Lights Out

Patrick;

Before sending your unit away, check the reed switches located inside your battery box. These are little black cylinder thingies that the battery wiring go through. These are switches that need a magnetic field to allow a current to pass through. When you switch on, magnets in the switch get close enough to the reed switch and they allow power to the electronics.

Sometime these fall out of the little groove that they're supposed to stay in. Check that it is in place.

Hope this helps .

.
It could still be the problem even though it (reed switch) is still in its proper place.

If you can get a voltmeter, disconnect the power lead from the battery box and check to see if there's voltage (when it is switched on) coming out of the battery box power lead. If no juice, then you're very close to diagnosing a little problem that is cheap to fix.

I think (after all the reported issues ranging from bugs in software to flooding handsets that are coming out the woodwork seemingly everyday now) plus the units design faults its finally 'lights out' for the 'Meg is 100% indistructible and reliable' urban myth

So just so I understand, there is a design fault in the switch which allows the magnet to fall out causing loss of power.

Both secondary and life supporting primary have same design fault in their switch (seeing as both switches are same design)

Hmmm, to me thats a little more than a 'little problem'

if one can fall out then both can fall out....if on the same dive it might be deadly at worse or mean you cant see any ppo2 display at best

No.

The magnet can be pulled out during a battery change if the person is clumsy and breaks the glue that holds it in. The person then has to ignore this when they put it back together.

Well I would not claim 100% indestructible, but it is near there somewhere. The Meg is not perfect, but it suits me and my damnable susceptibility to unintentional abuse that is more often than not, repair-able in the field or at home.

You are aware the HUD is controlled by the secondary handset right? What was the primary doing? Was the solenoid still firing?
