Meg C/L mod

OK, so now that I have like 8 dives on my new Meg I decided I know everything and I should modify my counterlungs
Well, I think this sounds worse than it is but you'll be the judge
I basically removed all but the outer-middle stock velcro straps (which I use to hold backup lights) and attached 3/4" velcro strips along the straight edge on the inboard side of the C/Ls as seen in the photos.
The idea is to streamline by hiding the SPG hoses inside the velcro and at the same time reduce the C/L volume by some 25% or so. I dived it and the volume is large enough for well over a very deep breath starting with the lungs at ambient pressure (for my tidal volume).
Restricting C/L volume was one of my concerns as I did this so in a pinch all I would have to do is grab the SPGs and pull them up or forward and the velcro will split over its entire length releasing the C/Ls to their original volume. I hardly think this will be ever needed but who knows? The other solution to this is well known and consists of hard-stitching the inboard edges together but you can't use that space anymore (for SPG).
I have no idea if this has been already done before, I just figured others may benefit from this idea so here it is if you like it. I have no intention to sell this in any way, I just own a sewing machine and I'm not afraid to use it.
Cheers,
Tibby

Hey, whatever gets me in the water, right? I'll have you know that I have retired my homemade wing a while ago although it has never failed me.

Re: Meg C/L mod

Nice looking mod Tibby. Personally I tuck my spg hoses in the pocket formed by the back of the CL and let them hang out the bottom but you way looks pretty neat. Be careful about make CL volume too low. I had a friend run out of diluent on a 200ft dive after sewing his CLs down along the seem. I believe he has let them out some now.

Re: Meg C/L mod

Thanks Dave! Yes, I was concerned about that too and decided not to go the direct stitching route. The overlap of the velcro is about 3/4" so it doesn't "close" the entire inside "bellows" as the direct stitching would. I believe that allows plenty of left over volume for my size but I'll try to be prudent and watch my diluent use.
The 200ft dives will come later, for now I'll just focus on the breathing part
Tibby
PS: Hey, I noticed that was your 1000nd post, so did you get like a virtual cookie or something from Stuart?
