| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Meg on a Plane I am traveling next Monday to the Bahamas to pick up my Movie Meg [woo-hoo] and get certified. I am obviously bringing it back with me, the following Monday [new Meg and small vacation]. My question is: what is the easiest way to transport it? Can I get most of it in a Pelican case to carry on, if so which one? I was hoping not to check most of it, although the cylinders will have to go in with the clothes [unless I can figure out shipping for just those while I am there]. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Vern [gettin' off the porch and runnin with the big dogs] |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Meg on a Plane Awesome! I have only traveled once with my Meg, but I asked the same question and here are some tips I have to offer: - If anyone asks you what this is or what that is...tell them that it is "LIFE SUPPORT EQUIPMENT" not scuba, dive gear or anything similar - You can carry on just about everything (if you are a savy packer...I am a Tetris expert) but you can get most of your unit inside a Pelican 1510 - Take the valves off your tanks and don't put anything (tape included) over the opening I did not travel with sorb, but I have been told that it's best to put it in individual ziplocks and include an MSDS in each bag and don't carry sorb onto the plane. Just my 2 cents -- I am sure there will be a ton of folks with more to add. |

| Cap Ron scourge of the NW ![]() ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Meg on a Plane I put most of the meg, Can, head, CL's, Loop, into a travel pro rollerbag like the airline employees use and carry it on. Bit of a lift into the overhead though, practice so it doesnt look heavy and always put it over another passengers seat, so if it falls out it doesnt land on YOU! Cylinders get valves pulled and packed separate (usually in my wet suit booties) and i slip the cylinders down the legs of my wetsuit for padding. I always tell the TSA (if the xrays are in the concourse like here in PDX) that I will be waiting at the other end for any questions, smile and ask how their day is going. Others I have heard will put the TSA regs on cylinders printed out and wrapped around the cylinders see another thread here on travel with cylinders.

Thanks Vern [gettin' off the porch and runnin with the big dogs] As Ron noted, remove your valves and put *NOTHING* over the cylinder bore if you want to see your cylinders at the other end. I've carried Sofnolime as well as my cylinders on board without problems before. However, make sure you carry the MSDS and letter from Molecular Products describing the product safe for airline travel. Most people (especially at the screening center) don't know how to read an MSDS. The letter spells it out in English. Search for the link to both of them here on Rebreather World. I know it saved me at least once when the material was scrutinized by a third world screening center. There are a few threads on Rebreather World detailing what fits in which travel case. Try narrowing your search to just the Meg forum first.

I didn't think it was possible but Matt sure as hell proved it was!! The can with backplate fitted backwards, head and regs go in the roller case and the CLs, wing and loop in the computer case....Too easy!! I'm heading OS again in the next couple of weeks and that is exactally how I am planning to take the Meg.....Overhead and no excess baggage this time!! Regards, Lance manifoldS.jpg

That way they won't have a chance to ask to weigh it. Once you're though that, out it comes from the locker. The x-ray boys are busy x-raying and usually don't have scales. Nor do the flight crew when you board the plane. Then, you just have to avoid making any gym grunts when you put the bags in the overhead bins. |

Unfortunately, in Perth when you wave bye bye to your relatives and through to departures before going through the X-rays there is a grumpy female security type person that insists on lifting and/or weighing anything that looks vaguely heavy and is very anal about the 7kg cut-off point. If you can get past her its all good, but the number of times I've had to move stuff from my carry-on into my wife's just to move it back after going round the corner ... |
