Onboard Tank Sizes

Without "de-inverting", has anyone had any experiences with, or tried, larger ( over 3L) size tanks using Tiger Clamps on their Megs? e.g. stubby AL30's

Do you mean the Apollo Tiger clamps?

They need a 125mm or larger diameter tank.

We ended up making our own version of the same for wee rebreather tanks.

THere are some other clamps called Tiger clamps, which I used years ago, but there a bit fiddly. They had a piece fixed to the tank using a jubilee clip, and you clipped them in to a mating part on the rebreather, pulling a pin. Mating them needed some accuracy which on a boat heaving around in Scottish seas was something that brought back one's breakfast.

Stubby AL30's sound like a good idea.

I’ve used up to 4.7 l / 50 cf 310 bar tanks w/ absolutely no problems. Brackets were my own carbon fiber, not Tiger gear, but I suspect there’d be no real difference in how the rig dived.

Re: Onboard Tank Sizes

I think I saw a photo of Cedric's Meg fitted with Al80 tanks as to make a point for the Meg's flexibility, but they were deinverted http://www.cedricverdier.com/writing...rtingTanks.pdf
I also don't think he uses Tiger gear mounts in that picture but not sure.

Re: Onboard Tank Sizes

Many thanks for replies. Tried unit out with two sets of tiger clamps on can with AL 30's stubby's setup last weekend with 2lbs on bands at top of tanks for trim in fresh water. No other weights with a Meadows backplate and Golem 35 ring. Trims OK, loading tanks is as easy as loading reg AL 3L's. In salt water will probably need 3 lbs each tank trim weights.
With double mount system gives some flexibility for variety of tank options and gives some rigidity to unit (it doesnt rattle). Hooked up to Golem BOV should provide viable onboard bailout option.
Many thanks to Dan and Jeff for their help and patience.

No prob at all. Your Trim was flat as a pancake. Great idea. The double tigerclamps worked slick. For the AL 19's, you just used the one set of tiger clamps. For sure!!!!!!

Re: Onboard Tank Sizes

I use steel 5l cylinders on my Meg with no problems, on single TigerGear clamps.
