Battery Question?

I soldered to 3.6 lithum batteries today for my Meg. When I test them on the volt meter I get 7.2vdc, and when I put them in the Meg I only get a reading of 6.5v. Does anyone know why that is?

The system monitor shows both when its under load and when its not. Under both readinds show 6.5v.

There are 2 loads involved. The solenoid load is the one the second voltage is measured under but the normal load of the electronics will also affect the voltage and is pretty constant. The 6.5v sounds pretty normal to me.

The 5 pack alkaline show more voltage don't they?

Oh, I know this!(raised wavy hand)...and to think I don't even have my Meg yet Ron sent me an FAQ as part of the training packet on how to make your own battery packs and it covers exactly this issue in the second part. Apparently there's a trick. See answer here: http://www.customrebreathers.com/BFaq.pdf
Hope this helps.

yes 2 3.6 volt = 7.2 and 5 x 1.5 = 7.5 volts

You should not be soldering batteries. If you need to make a battery pack you should be spot welding them together.

Batteries get damaged when you heat them with a soldering iron.

I've soldered lots of both lithuim and alkaline without any problems. Hot and fast is the best way. I tin the battery, then the wire then quickly join the 2.
Always seems to work for me.
