Thinking of buying a Copis Meg

I currently dive a Classic Kiss with a Hammerhead and I am seriously considering changing to a Copis Meg and fitting the Hammerhead to it at a later date. It would be good to get some feedback from the Hammermeg divers, I currently have the latest metal handset but will update them to include deco on the secondary. Also I need some advice on what I need to purchase I was looking at the Copis Meg stripped as Rich Stevenson has some on order but what extra bits do I need? I have a oxycheq 40lb wing and dumpy 3l cylinders and was planning to use my old and trusted stainless steel OMS back plate.

All advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Louis

I have a COPIS... and I got it stripped also... the biggest draw back was lack of the right size hoses....

I would recomend getting a set of HP and LP hoses form ISC... also remeber that the COPIS Stripped does come with a first stage an APEX4....

hope this helps

Re: Thinking of buying a Copis Meg

Thanks,

I take it you just need to get a diluent first stage?

I have downloaded the price list from the Meg website March 2007 is this the latest one? Did you buy the HUD? I cannot see it on the price list

Louis

Re: Thinking of buying a Copis Meg

I ordered Our Copis's as "light", which is everything but the tanks, and like you, added 13 cf/3L tanks to them. I really recomend getting the apex first stages...they are specifically made for the mCCR version and are really very nice. Made so that you can switch to non-compensating in about two minutes, without tools!

The whole kit is just awsome. Did our first dive to 42 meters last night. Even got to see several sharks! Enjoy your new toy!

Louis,

I have both the SS and AL OMS backplates. I was using my SS with a heavy STA and no other weight at first. I now use the OMS AL with the heavy STA and a 2lb ditchable soft weight. I like the trim better and I shed about 2lbs or so from the overall weight. This is all for diving dry. When I dive wet, I just remove the 2lb soft weight from it's pouch.

For bouyancy, I am currently using OMS's 35lb single wing. It fits a standard meg cannister perfect, but is a little long for my Movie Meg can. The bouyancy seems to be fine for wetsuit diving, and with the drysuit, I barely use it.

For cylinders, I use the small 13 cf low pressure steels. They give enough volume for multiple dives and are compact and have good bouyancy characteristics.

You can see pics of this setup in my gallery.

I have a buddy just finishing his COPIS training. I'm looking forward to getting to know his rig.

Best wishes,

Eric

This is one of the reasons that several people have started with a COPIS as a starting point to get to a HammerMeg.

Re: Thinking of buying a Copis Meg

and at least a few going for the shearmeg the battery is good for hundreds of hours of diving, even with the back light on the whole time!!!

keep in mind that you can get just the shearwater HUD display for the Copis, without having to get the GF. If you already have a constant po2 computer, simply adding the HUD to go with the stock handset would be a very nice option. keep in mind both the GF and HUD keep their callibration after powering down...the stock Copis handset requires Callibration each time it's turned on. The Shearwater HUD can be ordered with the correct fitting for one of the Copis's ports and the Molex connectors can easily be slipped in place with the stock handset connnectors...very nice piece of Kit!

Gill,

Do you know what the cost of the Shearwater GF is for a Meg? I've been dinking with the idea.
