Gill why do you have to calibrate each time it's turned on? mountain diver I originally wanted to buy a Meg but alas no one replied to my email so I bought a Classic Kiss. It has served me very well, it is nearly 4 years old and I think the time is right for a change I have already fitted a Hammerhead to it. I did a dive on Sunday with some Meg divers who were one of the first UK Classic kiss owners so I had a good chat about the pros and cons of the Meg. Also the main reason my wife is pregnant and if I don’t buy myself a new Rebreather now it is not going to happen for a very long time.Louis Last edited by louisrankin : 10th July 2007 at 19:56. |

Louis,Yes, I bought my Meg used and it came with the original Smithers electronics (only Nitrox and Imperial units) so I had it converted to the Shearwater controller. I took it on a week-long live-aboard trip in South China Sea, and have been diving it every week-end. I also converted a YBOD-Classic lid to Shearwater controller as well. I am awaiting some custom-machined parts to simplify the sensor placement lay-out of the original Meg lid, as well as reverse the flow. So I might make another lid and get another Shearwater controller for it. So I might end up with 3 Shearwater controllers soon... I swear, these CCRs have a nasty habit of multiplying by themselves... I keep selling my old units and more kept appearing before you realize what happened... ![]() PS: Louis, congratulations BTW!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Thinking of buying a Copis Meg I believe that the GF, eCCR version is $2500 (installed, I think). the copis version (the same GF, but without the wiring for the solenoid as part of the cable) is $1,300, hard wired (you install, or send in). if you want it with a fisher connector so that you can remove the handset, then it's $1500 total (you install, or send in). the HUD is $700. The installation of the shearwater to the Copis is somewhat involved, a bit daunting at first for first timer like me, but Bruce can walk you through it. I'm planning on putting together a step by step manual for it, having Bruce look it over and offering it up on Rebreather World and or the shearwater web site so people like me can do the install with a little more confidence. Gill, Do you know what the cost of the Shearwater GF is for a Meg? I've been dinking with the idea. MEM

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Thinking of buying a Copis Meg Gill why do you have to calibrate each time it's turned on? The stock handset is just a po2 meter, no computer. Extremely simple...a very solid unit, intended for recreational diving...but still able to handle the rigors of north west shore diving. the downside to that simplicity is that it lacks the computer to hold the callibration between dives. I basically wanted everything in an eCCR minus the set point controller, so I got a copis and the shearwater GF and HUD, removed the stock handset battery, unplugged it from the sensors, but have left everything in place as a back up, ready to plug in if the GF and or HUD goes to hell on a trip. If any one of the three systems malfunctions, I can use the other two and continue happily diving, even beyond recreational limits on a trip. if the cable of the stock handset were not glued in place i'd probably fit a fisher connector inside the head and make it so i can port plug and remove the stock handset... and reinstall in the field only if needed. For folks who have never experienced a major show stopper malfunction in the field, this may sound like overkill. those who have will better understand the wisdom of this configuration. Between the two of us we will probably even go a step further and purchase a third Shearwater for back up deco, but fisher enabled, keeping the wiring in the "save a trip" kit, enabling us to even do a complete rewire if need be. did I answer your question ![]()

I was able to remove the glue by hand inside my COPIS head to facilitate the Delta-P URM install... If I shifted the connector to the inside .. I could switch out to a back up in 10 minutes..... |
