Re: !!!WARNING!!! Solenoid stuck open scenario.

I will say that if one is not careful about having the regulator pressurized while having the system in the water, you stand a good chance of getting water in the solenoid once it is pressurized. If salt water, expect some nice corrosion. The solenoid can easily be taken apart and cleaned though. I speak from experience. In my case, I'm not sure exactly how water got in but I'm certain it was user error at some point because it hasn't happened again. I caught it though when I was doing my prep (part of the procedure) a few days before some dives. When I powered up, I didn't hear the solenoid run its three tests. That alerted me to something being wrong. It was found to be stuck closed due to corrosion inside the solenoid's cylinder. I'm very happy to have a product that I can service myself if the need arises. It can be a trip saver on a boat or in very remote destinations.

Take care of your gear and it will take care of you.

Re: !!!WARNING!!! Solenoid stuck open scenario.

Has anyone tried an inline filter of sorts? Would something like that help keep the moisture and impurities away from the solenoid?

ISC has added one. It is a scintered filter (Apeks 1st stage) in front of a spring placed in the inlet. I don't know for sure but I doubt it would keep water out.

decided to just get rid of the solenoid altogether...works like a charm.

I imagine you go through O2 pretty quickly without the solenoid to regulate the flow.

I see, I mean a real filter like the Apollo Biofilter or something.

This is a *very* new feature. If your unit does not have it (mine does not - Leon mentioned he was going to it and i saw it at DEMA) you can buy one and put it in. It is a fairly simple add on.

ROFL....you edit too fast for me. No, it is just a cheesy scintered filter but it would do the job keeping debris out.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I edited my post thinking it's just the brass filter in the inlet of the first stage which would be in most regulators.

It fits between the female QD on the head and the 90 deg elbow. It isn't obvious so you may have one and not realize it.
