Tank "frame" for Meg

I am asking a friend to help me making a "frame" to mount tanks for the Meg. See LINK.

The idea is have something that could be used for (just listing some possibilities...):
  • added trim weight (instead of lead with drysuit) - depending on thickness of plate used
  • mount larger tanks
  • use a permanent manifold "twin set" of diluent tanks
  • etc...
I just want to poll the level of interest (if any) so we could plan.

In addition, if you see more possible uses of such "frame", please share your thoughts / suggestions.

For example:
  • Different thicknesses with and without weight-saving cut-outs for different trim requirement, etc.
  • Build-in lifting handle on top
  • Build-in stand on bottom
  • Etc...

Very nice! Is it self made or commercially available ?

The only draw back I see is the added cost of G-snap adapters for those who don't have them already.

I like the G snaps but they're changed around a little now. Guy in Michigan was making them but that was a few years ago.

It is 2 bands around the can with a Single tank adapter welded to it. Weld the Snaps on and it's done. Oh, the Single tank adapter is full of lead too. I wanted it to sit closer to my back. Not that it's that far away but I built another one and had bolts welded to the rings. So it's right against it now. Weights go inbetween the tanks and your backplate. G snaps aren't on the new one. Had Stainless tube welded to the rings and a bolt drops through them that's mounted on the tanks. Cheaper and easier. One bolt on each side has a pin in it through the pipe so it can't move.

Oh, put on more then one pipe and you have more then one place to mount tanks. Smaller ones close to your back. Larger ones a little farther away. Tubes are still out of the way since the tanks are there.

If your using back mount CL's. You might like the lil extra room the STA adds.

I would be interested in one if the price is reasonable.

Re: Tank "frame" for Meg

Yes, I was looking closely at your pictures and figured out a way to use the extra 80cf twin bands I have laying around.

I will try to split the bands and weld the parts as you have done - once I am back home. Good idea!

The guy who made that for you should be selling them! I would buy one...

Oh, I use weight pouches on either sides of the can (behind the wing) to adjust my buoyancy. Easier to travel...

Might be cheaper/faster to ask John if he can adapt his design and make them for you.

The original plate from the link on the first post isn't my idea, so it is not right to "steal" the concept by making the same design elsewhere (i.e. with John).

So until the guy who originated the idea tells me that he doesn't want to pursue it any longer, I should stay with him.

Plus, and no offense intended, I have a different concept for the stand but that's not a priority for me - I already have a beautiful stand bought from Jakub.
